The simple consolidation example is for you to give a correct simple answer which you cannot bring yourself to say - each share would be double the price.

This was giving you an example of the effect of share reductions on a share price.
Now if the buyback reduces share count by 6% what effect would that have on the price of each remaining share?

The only thing in common between a consolidation and a buyback is the reduction in share count.
A consolidation is cosmetic adding zero value for shareholders
A buyback is a return to shareholders.

you have just said , an increased percentage holding with each share being worth about 6% greater than previously - simple as that - a return to shareholders . Shareholder equity liabilities are reduced by the same amount.

If an investor doesn't know that big companies give some remuneration in shares, then they are stupid, and if they are stupid it would be more of a risk to make investments.
If you do not like the situation then DO NOT INVEST in any company that have share schemes - investment choices may be considerably reduced.
