I can also do that - just as one example, I first bought BATS early in 2000 when they were being battered from concerns of people suing them in the USA.

I was out of them after the share price had gone up 20 fold.

Lloyds are not doing scrip dividends, but that would be another situation where new shares are issued instead of cash - can you imagine the uproar from some about the new issues , but as with bonuses, nothing to do with share buybacks and cancellations.

Now safely in account

Can be used by investors to purchase further Lloyds shares if they so wish, giving double digit returns to shareholders.
