same - no change - the same message when Lloyds was at 40p offering 15% + returns to shareholders.

At the current price return to shareholders would be 10% +

Can you imagine someone that has recently sold an additional property for a £300,000 gain and expecting to pay 24% CGT only to find on Budget day that the bill is now 40% or 45%. . As I said - that would be outrageous

Not if the increases come into effect in April 2025 - many would make sales before April.

As I said though, this is a socialist government and changes may be immediate for this tax year to incorporate sales already made

well if someone had made asset sales in this financial year with the obligation to make a submission by the end of 2025 and i believe within 60 days for an addition property? and the seller of those assets was expecting the current rates at the time of disposal to apply, would have any change in the cgt rates applied retrospectively to those sales if those changed rates were made in the budget to apply to this financial years asset sales .

This is a socialist government so an immediate effect cannot be ruled out.

that would mean in effect retrospective increases starting at a time before they came to power - probably not likely

you will always be gambling with the valuation of an asset with the movement in share price, no matter what net amount that asset has cost. With a net zero cost (or less - I have some stocks in that situation) you would be gambling that you do not lose gains that are available to cash in.

I do not use income from a stock to adjust my asset cost.

I imagine your average cost per share would be a lot higher without your income adjustment of your asset cost.

Just checked - unfortunately (unless the price drops) I only got a partial purchase, as the number of shares I wanted were not available at the price for the rest of the day

yes you had your target and you stuck to it - time will tell how the market will value Lloyds in the coming months/years.

yes being on a companies board doesn't mean that 100% of your time is taken up with a single company- time can be split if someone is a member of more than one business as many executives are.

Until the Socialists budget.

If they increase cgt on shares to 40% , there is no way I would want to pay that. In those circumstances I would contemplate using SB's even for longer term investment.
