How many more times does it need saying SB's and purchasing shares are both gambles/investments in the price movement of a share. They have different tax regimes - end of.

I use a SB for what they should only be used for - a shorter term investment/gamble.

I purchase shares for a longer term investment/gamble.

Financial SB's are a leveraged product, so should be used by only those who can deal with the potential consequences of being leveraged.

I thought i had after placing at the quoted price but currently in 'dealing' status which means the number of shares were not all available at the price. A question now of waiting to see if the order is completed or partially filled or none at all

Yes a 'bet' which comes under the gambling tax regime as opposed to the gamble when purchasing shares which comes under a different tax regime.
