''If the buyback programme turbo charged a bull run as we've seen with some US stocks''
The sole purpose of the return to shareholders by way of buybacks is to reduce share capital. It appeared that disapproval of them were not so evident when BP was at 550p a share earlier this year.
It id the market that determines the valuation of BP , which is currently at about £61 Billion.
What I defend are the facts, which also includes the fact that shareholders vote in favour of buybacks
''Also last time, you and Happy were claiming that buybacks "put more money into the pockets of shareholders", which isn't true either.''
?? what?
A buyback is a return to shareholders. A reduction in share capital means that the price per share with any given market cap is greater than it would otherwise be. The market decides the value of BP on a daily basis.
