I stated that HSBC is currently trading at about book value.

I also stated that HSBC was trading at 2.2 times book value over 20 years ago as a comparion to now.

Precisely, we knew the eventual benefit of the structural hedge and the reductions in cet1, etc when the share price was near 40p, which is why I loaded up 4 times at those levels not that long ago. I said at those levels that I didn't care how low the market took the share price on maintained profitability. Not only would it have been better for buybacks, I would have bought even more.

time to eventually get to a more realistic valuation isn't always a bad thing. I have spent the last 10 years from my selling at the 80's peak accumulating many shares.

No sensible shareholder would want that - you would be better off with a continuing upward trend with your remaining 75% of what you had. You could be sensible and pay off a lump sum off of your mortgage with the sale proceeds.

Lloyds has been undervalued for a very long time. Investors had many months to get on board not that long ago near the 40p level which would have given them total shareholder returns comfortable into double digits. Lloyds is still trading at below book value

large percentage - my sale today was about 5%

I have been in a 10 year cycle - selling into the 80's in 2015 to have a low average price on remaining, then making purchases on the way down starting in the 60's down to below 24p, with sales in between, then purchases and sales on the way up to today sale.

Hopefully this 10 year price cycle won't repeat.

forget about tnav - price to book ration is better. An increase in share price in the future to reach a ratio of at least 1.2 is possible - currently still under book value
