Buybacks have NOTHING to do with what valuation the market places on HSBC.

If the market valued HSBC at £80 Billion tomorrow then the share price would be nearly halved.

Based on the current market cap, without buybacks the price per share would have been a lot lower.

The market values HSBC on a daily basis.

HSBC currently is on a low p/e ratio and trades at about book value.

My thoughts are that the market can take the share price up or down.

It is up to an investor to decide whether the current share price is good value or not, and the chances of the market continuing to re rate Lloyds to the upside taking account of it's low forward p/e ratios and the low 0.86 book value ratio and the fact that the market cap is less than £41 Billion against a £58 Billion market cap reached in 2015.

Next selling target may be only at about the 70p level and then 75, 80 etc (also dependant on market cap at those share price levels. As with purchases, if a high valuation was reached once more - £58 Billion + then sales would be a lot larger. I could make a sale at any time to make my remaining shares be for free, but I would rather do that wen I feel that Lloyds isn't lowly valued.

I have made many many purchases and sales since we left an expensive, rule taker club.

I took some off the table today, which was only 50,000 shares which were some of the number of shares purchased in my last 4 lots near the 40p mark.

I have helped to look after elderly relatives for about the last 7 or 8 years and have not had a proper holiday in that time. As I have said before, it is just a changing portfolio valuation number on a screen to me. I have given away a great deal of money to my family and will continue to do so. No money put into PEPS/ISA's ((the maximum) has ever been taken out. Of course I will have to do something about that at some time and give away more of a fortune and hopefully live another 7 years afterwards due to the outrageous IHT. All accumulated investments have come about from net income after having already paid top rate tax on it.
