I believe we may have discussed this previously. But worth reviewing again. From a meeting that took place during June 2018:-

" The meeting discussed various aspects of smart meters e.g. BIS certification, compatibility with RF/GPRS, harmonisation with existing didital infrastructure, etc."

" It was also agreed that all technical aspects will be further deliberated into a consultation with meter manufacturers, DISCOMs and system integrators."

Present at the meeting were representatives from the Ministry of Power and officials from the Central Electricity Authority, PFC, REC EESL and meter manufacturers.

Thank you for the information on Andhra Pradesh. Very interesting. So I suppose we will have to wait to find out, just how many " ..... some quantum ........ " actually means, of the 1.7 million meters means and how quickly, they can successfully install them?

I understand that the successful System Integrator, for the original EESL tender, was Larsen&Toubro ( Construction.) Not Larsen&Toubro ( Electrical and Automation ) that CyanConnode are partnered with.

Yes, certainly, the UK smart meter program could indeed be swallowed up by the India smart meter program. And to his credit, it is Prime Minister Modi and his Government, that have driven this project forward, in India, in both Infrastructure and technology.

And as you have pointed out, large Companies, carrying out large projects, will have problems. That is inevitable.

But as you again pointed out, CyanConnode are partners with Genus Power and Larsen&Toubro. But CyanConnode have also engaged with other meter manufacturers, based in India. ( And China.) So have an infrastructure/ecosystem of Partners, from many different areas of smart grid technology.

And from memory, but I cannot remember which project it was, I believe that CyanConnode took on the lead, for one of the projects won in India. Where-as they not only supplied the RF solution, but also sourced the manufacturers for the meters and generally headed the project.

So CyanConnode have a wealth of experience for these/this kind of project, which utilities, meter manufactures, solution providers and government agencies, may wish to use.

Thank you for the Syrmatech information. It is appreciated. Another brick in the wall for a " Made in India " solution.

Yes indeed. I am surprised, being an Indian Government organisation, set up under the Ministry of Power, that they do not implement a more accountable and transparent system. Especially with the large, multi million smart meter tenders/projects, that EESL are involved in.

The Companies involved with the ISGF roll-out, over the last 2/3 years or so, have been/are under far more scrutiny, from what I can see, than EESL are with their projects.

Maybe it is something that can/will be looked at in the future. Especially with what is involved.

I agree, EESL have indeed been successful, to some degree, with their LED implementation projects.

But organizing the purchasing, manufacturing and installing of smart meters, into an integral, functioning, working utility system, which could have multiple solutions, that suits both the customer and the client, is entirely different.

And for what it's worth, I do not go along with Facebook recommendations. Not for projects like this.

I agree that the Gujarat project, seems to be progressing well and on schedule.

And the Mysore project, is, as stated, " ..... complete ..... " Probably going through what is called in the building industry, as " snagging."

........ a shame that there does not seem to be any reporting mechanism, on the progress of EESL projects, as there is with the ISGF projects. Whereas the number of installed meters is recorded monthly. The number of DCU's are recorded monthly. When the Data Center equipment is procured, etc,etc, so that interested parties can follow the projects, in more detail.

Just a thought.

They are not afraid to project that, " Overall, there are plans for up to 130mn smart meters by 2021. And it looks like they are projecting " ...... 6.5mn meters for FY 2018."

And, " Smart metering orders from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Maharashtra, to be rolled out over the next 4-6 months."

I remembered, I had seen the Business Standard report before, from March 2018, from your 19:51 post, when I saw the list of " .... other bidders ..... " within the report. I did not know any of them, at the time.

Interestingly, when I was reviewing the Anil Daulani presentation video, from November 2017, I noticed that one of these " ...... other bidders ...... " was on one of the presentation slides, headed " Supporting multiple meters " within Anil's video. About 08:56 into the presentation.

Now we are getting somewhere. I had already found something to do with C-DAC, but your references are nearer the mark.

So C-DAC design and develop smart meters, but they do not manufacture them? ( 19:19 post.)

MoU between ITI and C-DAC " ..... to collaborate in the area of Internet of Things ( IoT.) ( 19:20 post.) Specific categories mentioned, in connection with EESL, but smart electric metering isn't one of them.

Is there a date on the submission to " ...... design manufacture smart meters ......... " for ITI, or is it within what you have posted?

......... who is actually manufacturing the meters for EESL. A serious question.

EESL are a procurement agency. They do not make anything. They provide products and services that other Companies produce/make.

On looking through the News and Events web-pages, unless I have missed it, of ITI or KEONICS, neither have ever acknowledged that they have won the EESL tender for meters. Only in news reports.

Only Genus Power:-

No direct web-link, but type in:- Genus Power Infrastructures limited won order for 13.5 lakh Smart Meters.

They do not advertise, in any of there manufacturing plants, that I can find, that the products manufactured by either ITI or KEONICS, qualify for IS16444.

And neither Company confirm that they manufacture any kind of meter.

So are ITI and KEONICS, sub contracting their smart meter quotas, to say China. And can anyone confirm who the manufacturers are.

I mentioned something along these lines ( sub-contractors ) a while back, but cannot recall any confirmation.

As I said, a serious question.

I think that JST have, like most of us, invested in CyanConnode being part of various smart meter/IoT projects, in various regions around the globe. In JST's case, with his/their specific knowledge of the region, I would think it was specifically Thailand.

It is the clients/customers/governments, that eventually determine how quickly/how far, projects progress.

Investors have to wait for news of progress. And news that will influence the market and in turn, the share price. I personally do not see that management are slowing the process.

The questions you have posed, are questions we have all asked, in one way or another, but we will have to see how these EESL tenders unfold.

Personally, I think there are developments and trade-offs, that have yet to be made and ironed out, with this/these project(s).

Your point, in relation to ITI, KEONICS, or any other winning meter manufacturer, for the EESL tender(s), having to go to Genus, to obtain the complying technology, would indeed, possibly have a cost implication. Because Genus will undoubtably want to make a profit, on the solution they provide to another meter manufacturer. If indeed they would ever consider it.

So, all we can do, as interested by-standers, is consider the confirmed information that is available and wait to see how the projects unfold.
