I remember last August, a TR1 notice was issued for a £4 billion purchase, and the share price never moved...my view is this will follow the Cu price until any news lands or until Feb25 results. Last years trading loss shocked us all, but over a 12 month period, they did spend approx $9b on acquiring TECK, MRN, ALUNORTE & MARA whilst reducing debt. Just need the global economy to pick up, starting with lowering interest rates.

Scott, my average is £2.06, but I did buy as the price was falling during the covid era, upon receipt of the the next divi, I'll have had 40% of my investment returned in divis, so, so far so good, but as Duncan Wanblad (CEO of AAL) and Mike Tyson said, everyone's gotta plan till they get punched in mouth....good luck with your investments..

Scott, I think you may be right and it being a long haul to get to previous highs, but I'll wait it out and collect the divis till we get there.....I was disappointed with $0.12c this year, but upon reflection, the EVR coal should bolster the divis and fund future projects......the $6.9b EVR purchase equates to $0.58 cents per share, if it was returned to shareholders instead, plus the profits from EVR mines on top.....the increased divis are not guaranteed, and as you say, it could be a long haul, but at least I'm getting paid to be patient.

Forgive my ignorance on the issue of moving to another index, but I am assuming the material gain here would be greater exposure to a larger (less ESG driven) investor pool....is this correct?

So a net $233 million loss reported for H1, and debt is reduced to $3.6B from $4.9B.

So the purchase of EVR was funded from profits from H2/23 & H1/24, still moving forward, it will boost future profits and dividends/ROC.

Hopefully there will be no more large CAPEX costs for a while and so profits/divis/ROC should increase next year ....

Based on todays numbers, 30% dividend payout from £1.1b underlying profit gives a dividend per share of £0.039.....but the £1.1b profit is from 6 months trading, so yearly divi would be £0.078 per share....I think this is correct, numbers based on 8.5b shares in issue.

After a quick scan through, the earnings report is better than expected, dividend confirmed at 42 cents, but net debt has jumped to $11B, which is a concern and a further $1.6B write down on worodsmith but no mention of seeking a government bailout or funding partners...

Causal, I initially thought that buying a $7b asset would add $7b to the market cap, but I don't think we'll see any benefit to the SP until it shows to be a profitable deal for GLEN, but I hope I'm wrong. The next driver for the SP may be the H1 Results showing higher commodity prices from Q2 and forecast lower unit costs/higher margins for all commodities as detailed in last report back Feb.

The level of debt should be much lower, but GLEN never clarified how the EVR deal was being financed, from debt, profits???

Also, It'll be interesting to see if they still plan to separate the coal and metals into separate companies as originally stated, still company is in a great position to profit from expected global growth over next few years.

I would have thought labour getting in is already priced in, see if starmer nationalises National Grid and any other utilities.....if Reform end up as the main opposition to labour, that might cause a few ripples in the market.....similar to the CAC in france when the far right FN party made big gains recently..

Causal, took my last 2 x glen divis in USD due to the poor exchange rate and looking for an opportunity on the DJI / Nasdaq......still at least the 1/2 year results should be positive, to be announced first week in August.

This was one of my first investments many years ago and held 100k shares, i bailed out just after russia invaded ukraine at 44p and 54p with a 20% profit. Once the Perth hub got shelved, that was it for me with to many opportunies not taken and Tom taking a large salary and doing nothing, the Dana team is broken up, even the cleaner has probably left for better prospects....but i see PMG are still sponsoring the Scottish cricket team, there more chance them winning the cricket T20 World cup than Tom turning this around...Good luck all LTH's

Looking through the AGM report, a new share buyback was voted in favour by over 97%.

For me buybacks only have any value if the SP is low, but on the plus side, GLEN must be getting cash rich again with elevated metals/coal prices, so hopefully debt will be reduced and maybe a special dividend will be announced in the half year report in August.

BH26, I work in manufacturing and was chatting to a customer (engineer, who works for a large NY listed company developing hydrogen fuel cells), who was also stating use of PGM's in hydrogen fuel cells. However, he advised the technology is some years away from a mass roll out for public consumption, His example was that his company operate from near bracknell and have a hydrogen fuel cell pool car, but nearest fuel station was heathrow airport....Hydrogen will be the final solution (using PGM's), but not for another 10+ years, still, you're out with a profit, good luck.

I suspect one more offer will be tabled, but based on how quickly the last one was dismissed, it would appear that both companies valuation of AAL are too far apart to reach an agreement.....and is there any pressure on the board to sell out????

I'm surprised that BHP didn't approach TECK as their portfolio of assets is more suited to what BHP are after, but the TECK share price has risen lately, so that makes the AAL offer even more opportunistic....

I would a final offer of £29 to shareholders and a few sweeteners for the South African government in the way of jobs, building infastructure, hospitals, schools, etc

Glencore jumped through the same hoops when agreeing to buy EVR from TECK, the list of demands looked like a shopping list!!!!

Hopefully RIO will show their hand here as they seem to be sat on the sidelines with all the recent mining M & A's (this one, Glen/Teck, BHP/Oz minerals, Newmont/ Newcrest), these are all driven by trying to acquire instant access to copper without the need of building a mine from scratch (pressumbly for the next bull run over the next 5 year period), but none of them seem keen to start any brownfield/shovel ready mine developments.... but prefer to buy operational mining projects instead...
