Higher volume = lower spread = more appealing buy because less costly.

A low volume is generally a negative thing, even though that discourages traders too...

YL - the point now makes sense, thank you. The value of the shares bought must be higher than the value of the share borrowed by the all the shorters combined though.
Do you have examples of where a share buy back neutralise a shorting attack (it's a genuine, not rhetorical, question).

YorkshireLife - you are assuming that the reasons for that hypothetical sale would be "well-known". It's a bit of a circular reasoning. The SP would not increase following such hypothetical buys as the market would know that BUR were planning to sell those shares bought at a later date when the SP would have recovered vs now.

addicknt - do you think they just left their cash lying about for new share purchases? Several million £££ is still a lot to shift so quickly.

YL - you are suggesting that the company buy shares on the cheap now, and sell them again on the open market later? Such a sale would not inspire market confidence and would make the SP slump, and cause serious damage to the reputation of the company.
And if I, a complete amateur, think that, I suspect that real professionals have thought that too, leaving the company in a sort of stalemate in respect of share buy-back.

An announcement to say what? RNSs are for director buys / sells and material business info.

Please remember that management spent several millions of ££ buying shares over the past 7 or so. They may be wealthy, but you don't just get hold of several million ££ that quickly.
Heavy share buy back also means that the money thus used cannot be employed for further investments and general business growth, which is what they are aiming for.

That call is much more likely to reassure than worry them as that company was everyone's darling up until MW, and the fundamentals have changed in no way whatsoever (Argentina had probably been factored in for weeks.)

Thank you. It took a lot of trial and error but it's paying off surprisingly well. I always bounce them off the news and fundamentals and conversely though, I don't treat them in complete isolation like Lakshmi (or so she claims...).

The main danger is not to let oneself be influenced by where we hope it will go and misinterpret the data as a result.

And to a lower extent we have to admit that sometimes, there is just no clear signal so there is little point in trying to find signs where there are none.

I did, the hammer was taking shape back then, and if you'd read me completely you'd have seen that I said we should watch for the end of day - in case the hammer shape was not sustained. But it will almost certainly remain now.
Tomorrow should be rocket-fueled, combined with the re-report of the Numis valuation of 1866p per share and the hire of the new head of IR.

Hammer shaped candlestick today. A very strong reversal signal in a downtrend. I believe this will go up by anything from 5 - 25% tomorrow.

let's see if he stops Bur's reputation being messed about by shorters and attention seekers... The market seems to like his appointment already!
