Oct. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Merrill Lynch & Co. Chief Executive Officer Stan O'Neal has decided to leave the company, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing an unidentified person familiar with the matter. An announcement may come later today or tomorrow morning. The company's board will look inside the New York-based firm as well as outside for a replacement, the newspaper said, citing the unidentified person.

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Gold hit another 28-year peak as the dollar plunged to new record lows against the euro, while oil prices remained close to new record highs set earlier this morning. At 2.27 pm, spot gold was up at 777.70 usd an ounce against 767.60 usd in late New York trades yesterday, having just hit 778.70 usd, its highest level point since January 1980.

lets hope the quiet trading continues even if the Dow falls heavily this afternoon on fears of the recessionary effect of rising oil prices , the positive (but not for their currency) is the rumoured cut in their bank rate on 31st Oct.
