Next Lockdown Review - 15th February22 Jan 2021 19:02
For those who didn't get time to watch it here are the main Key Points from Tonight's Government Briefing. No mention of present Lockdown extending to the summer. Next review -15th Feb.
Approx 1 in 10 of the population now 1st vaccinated.
4.4 Million now vaccinated in total
Record 400,000 in one day
1401 deaths.
Thoughts are that there will be more deaths for a little while to come, as predicted.
71% of over 80s vaccinated
2/3 of Care Home residents vaccinated
Remain on track for 1st 4 Cohorts to be vaccinated by Mid-Feb.
Both vaccines remain effective against the Old and New variant.
Those infected previously have cover against the new variants as well – believed 5 months
Kent mutation spreads between 30% and 70% more easily.
Some evidence that the new variant may increase mortality. Example given of a man in his 60’s and put it in context that it might mean 13 deaths in 1,000 as opposed to 10 in 1000.
(That means it is 0.3% more deadly - not 30%)
Prime Minister questioned on Timing of Lifting Lockdown Measures.
Things would be reviewed on the 15th February.
Reference conditions for an Unlock he cited:
Vaccinations continuing to rollout well.
No variant shocks,
Reduce things to a level where it cannot surge from again.
Will continuously to constantly review– but will only Unlock again safely and cautiously.
First thing they wish to reopen is schools.
Stated that we will have to live with CV for some time to come, but controlled.
New medicines also coming along.
As stated it will get reviewed on the 15th February and media advised not get hooked up on specific dates.
Chris Witty asked reference only 1 jab and having to wait 12 weeks for the second jab. Short answer (Again) Better to have twice as many getting a relatively high level of protection off 1 jab than half without.
Still avoid contact once you have the 1st vaccination as 1 in 55 (1 in 35 in London) are belied to have Covid19. 2 or 3 weeks for vaccine to take effect and then further increase immunity over time.
Asked about Peaks:
Peak of Infections. Overall down but still at a precarious level. 20 to 30 year olds an exception.
Hospitalisations broadly flat with a few exceptions
Deaths – as above more expected
Patrick Vallance asked about the South African variant and how much was in the UK. Stated between 44 and 71 cases as an upper limit. NO evidence that SA or Brazilian have greater transmission effects than what is already here. No transmission advantage. Numerous studies ongoing and too early to draw conclusions.
Constant Repeated Reminders throughout.
Much more to do
Get the Jab if the letter comes through.
Vaccinate, vaccinate.
Important all follow and stick to the rules.
Stay Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives.
