Yep. But I find it hard to believe that after all this time, secrecy and positive updates we will have no Covid tests. The IP is there. Asymptomatic testing is what Affimers do very well. Once we can tie up the scaling and commercial side of things I’m sure we will have a very good test.
Aaaaand another Sunday night dissertation from Wyn. There’s only so many times you can ask a BB full of speculators what’s going on with the product development and raise your concerns about how there will be a market.
Anyone who thinks the pandemic isn’t going to be a rapidly evolving sh it show is in for a surprise I think.
Vaccines and tests will be playing catch-up to nature’s creations. In that sort of space, you really need to nail on your IP rather than rush a half baked product to the market, wouldn’t you think?
Test x 3

“You want me to post something else?”
Nothing about the levels of bureaucracy and inefficiency in the public sector surprises me anymore. A few years ago I discovered you can be fired from your job but remain on full pay in the civil service for years. It’s an astonishing waste of taxpayers’ money
Just filling in my Covid Symptom Tracker bits this morning having done a test yesterday. I noticed there is a new type of test in the drop down menu which asks how the test was performed. It now gives you the option to select
‘I spat in a cup / tube’
That is all. HNY etc
Great find, Jep. Although I’m as frustrated as the next holder with the lack of news, I do wonder if the government has gone for a radio silence policy until the tech is ready to roll out en masse. In the meantime, we play private detectives... I think it’s fair to say it’s not INNOVA. And the mention of several different technologies does tie in with our product list:
“The Lateral Flow Test (LFT) is one of a number of new testing technologies for the Covid-19 virus currently being piloted across the UK.”
The following is also an intriguing sentence. Have any manufacturer come out to say their product is 100% validated ? The assumption here that it these products have gone through Porton Down now and the govt is content with their clinical performance:
“The technology has already been validated – clinical testing phases are all complete.”
Curiouser and curiouser.
And a robust and lasting testing solution - even AFTER everyone has been vaccinated. And we won’t get to that point until around autumn. Everyone knows what happens with Covid cases in Autumn so what chances of govt abandoning a nationwide testing scheme then?
It has also occurred to me that Covid-19 is one of many viruses lurking out there ready to ravage us. If you get a rapid test right and you prove your IP... well then where does that leave us for future viruses and government responses / planning of such?
Wyn,
You can keep posting your queries / concerns on this BB as much as you like. I can assure you, you will not find the answers here. The first any of us will know about the concerns you raise will be via an RNS - this is not rocket science.
Once you reconcile yourself with that fact, the gurning will stop and the whining will cease. So you either trust in your position or you sell. It’s a very zen like state, I highly recommend it.
All the best, pal.
PS I would LOVE to know the answers to all your questions too. Preferably at 0700 tomorrow ;)
So what happens if abs when Avacta produce the LFT iaw Govt specifications?
It is becoming very clear that the current crop of LFTs don’t cut the mustard - let’s not pretend the tests for lorry drivers are anything other than a token effort to get trade flowing again?
And IF we get that test approved to the exacting standards of the MHRA and have the capacity to develop and scale here in the UK, what does that provide us in the medium and long term..?
Or do you guys just like to come here for a bleat? :)
