Actually most funds use shorts as hedges and believe me, many get it wrong. Interestingly enough it’s systematic funds shorting spire which tells me they are just riding the momentum (they don’t look at the fundamentals).

Maybe might be worth to propose changes:

The sale process can’t run forever. Either the board deliver and the stock spikes or nothing happens. In that case 150p for some time. Tosca and Mediclinic want out. First best offer and they are out imo. Medliclinics cost base way too high, Tosca (unless they buy more now) avg maybe 180-190? I would guess they are underwater now.

Both Mediclinic and Tosca are big enough holders the change the board and ceo. Imo if no sale until the GM the entire board and ceo get ousted, but who knows.

Two Sigma and Qube are systematic firms, not discretionary/fundamental. They probably just jumped on the price movement.

Anyway, surprised that shareholders aren’t more vocal out there.

Why isn’t Spire issuing updates to the market? And why don’t we hear from the top 4-5 holders? No way that latter let the board and management get away with this sh@ show.

Also, why would Bridgepoint leak the bid and then pull out? Exactly, makes zero sense.

So what happened? Either Bridgepoint said final offer won’t be much higher and the Board denied an extension. Or the board has something higher lined up and said No thank you.

i never said 240 is acceptable or not. what’s not acceptable imo is that the board didn’t try to extend the pusu and push pe to offer more than 230. now the stock is at 145. what a joke of a process so far. if you as board have leverage and an alternative offer you can pe to f@@ off. but i haven’t come across anything that would indicate there are better offers on the table. but the board had time to award options to management and hand over more than 7m pounds to rothschild. isn’t that called ******* away shareholders money?

Imo the large holders may have pocketed too high. If PE want to pay a final 240 and you want 280, you screwed up clearly imo.

I have in 20 years not seen a company that spent that much money in a sale process and the stock crashed more than 30%. Surprised none of the large holders haven’t come out publicly and asked the management and board to step down?

PE could do a deal paying 240-250 and still generate a 20%+ IRR because of the SLB btw. Saves tons of capex.

PE’s number one source of return is leverage. They would just sell some hospitals or do an SLB.

The yield for similar asset isn’t 8% but more 6%.

What is the Board doing ffs? Half a year, spent tons of fees on M&A advisors and the stock has cratered. All of us could have done better imo. They need to be held accountable?
