I'm looking forward to the time when all the Holiday/Airline/Aircraft/Cruise and supporting companies, both here and around the world aren't joined in lockstep pricewise. That they nearly are, is I think something of an oversimplification. CCl for instance is sinking in debt whilst we have a relatively 'small' overhang. Maybe this will occur after the results....

I was s-l-o-w-l-y starting to get the picture! I suppose these replies do serve a purpose, as it allows others to furnish answers that could help investors with questions.
For instance, why pay off debt, probably taken out at very low rates or have a rights issue when that cash at hand allows management flexibility and an insurance against any potentially harmful future events ? It's just good financial management as far as I can see. For instance..
Anybody who has taken out a long term, fixed rate mortgage in the last few years is now sitting pretty and can if they like use any spare money to find higher return opportunities, whilst investing it via a shares ISA even protects their investments from Capital gains tax!
Though I'm not an IFA and would never wish to influence anybody. DYOR.

Because unless interest rates rocket, (when loans are due and may have to be renewed) then there are much better things to do with the capital. They have greater flexibility for acquisitions etc if the right opportunities arise. Not sure what rates they are paying on their paper, but it could be quite low.

I would imagine that people (investment types) will decide if the results point toward a reestablishment of figures as they were before the pandemic and how long, due to forward guidance that may take. Future optimism is what drives many share price movements, just look at most tech stocks, many making little or no profit, but they still rise due to optimism. I would imagine that in times like these, projected performance, be it against the companies peers, similar/related industries (for instance holiday companies) or with other potential investment opportunities, (be it cash, property, gold or others) is what is driving many stocks.

Lets look at "Your" conditions for price advancement.
1. As you well know, restrictions are being removed all the time now, in a month, many if not most will be gone. Just in time for spring breaks, let alone summer bookings.
2. People are building immunity as we speak, new drugs are being developed also. The next variant is likely to be no more onerous than the last, or so the health professionals are saying.
3/4. Did flying stop between 2008 and 2014 when oil reached $103.5 x 1.3 (due to inflation) = $134 equivalent per barrel for much of that period? No it did not. The Middle East produces 23+% of world oil production compared to 11% for Russia. Russia is NOT a member of OPEC and in many areas has opposite aims in oil production. OPEC has the production capacity to up production to fill any shortfall, and certainly will do so if asked by the Americans as they have done in the past. As oil prices are now high enough for the shale oil producers in the states, more production could be brought online there.
5. Inflation has been at 7% before. See answers 3/4.
6. Money is presently flowing out of tech stocks. Nasdaq is down 5% whilst Dow is level but rising in the last six months.
Obviously there could be bumps in the road, but your conditions for growth in IAG seem to be being met or exceeded.

Just a quickie......
Re, RR, seeing the vast amounts that some airlines are investing in planes and thus engines gives me a warm fuzzy feeling about air transport and cargo for the future, these are multi billion pound investments. Where individual companies end up is as always the question. But IAG I feel is a stable company (as much as any other) and a good mid to longer term bet.

North, that shows confidence. I'm in on IAG for just under 90k shares. But my average price is a fair bit lower so it lessens the risk to an extent.

Sun. Interesting that RR and IAG seem to be following each other a bit. One is a leading indicator I would have thought (IAG) and the other a lagging one (RR). they're both very different, odd that.

North, that's a good idea, the ability to see the trades piling up can help. I tend to use the Buy/Sell difference as a guide, though it's nowhere near as good as level two, and only shows an instant in time.
