Neither you, nor I, know if JDW already pays above the new minimum wage. Even if that is not the case the impact of the rise will be less than it would be if minimum wage was currently paid to significant numbers of staff. So my point is totally relevant.

Surprised it has had no effect. Also I note that.JDW prides itself on paying more than minimum wage so that aspect of the budget isn't relevant. Obviously the NI rise is but that is true for all business

I've not crunched numbers.but not only has minimum wage been increased, not only the employer NI.rate increased but it's also being applied from far lower.level of salary. So NI.on much greater proportion of a hiigher salay at a.higher.rate. Does she just want to increase unemployment amongst the u skilled??

I tend to agree. Unlike most service businesses JDW has headroom to increase margins slightly which their competitors don't. The increase in wages will also affect thiose competitors and may push some over the edge. In times of hardship, which for many consumers is coming, it is the low cost operators like JDW that gain. They seem to be streamlining the operation by closing multiple operations in the same area, which itself puts pressure on Landlords. It will be a rough few months, rougher than I thought, but its divi paying now so may just become a LTH for me.

I doubt its holders rushing to secure capitals gains in GSK before the Statement by Reeves today, no one in GSK has any to speak of. Any CGT changes are likely to come into effect immediately, as they did in 2008 ( think, was that the end of taper relief? My memory isnt what it was!).

Momentum imo. That's why I have had success in the past buying and selling, When it goes up it does several days in a row, same when it goes down, This time it seems to have forgotten to stop going down! I do find it surprising given the return to dividends, as this decision will not have been taken lightly by the board - if you start paying divis it is usually with a view to continuing to pay them.

I'm always confused about the xd date, in this case it was 24th. As I interpret it a holder at close of play on 23rd would get the divi, but those buying on the 24th and subsequently will not. So I expected a mark down of c.12p yesterday. But with the FTSE250 up this morning and our glorious leader comrade Starmer rumoured to be abandoning his silly smoking ban in the vicinity of pubs I expected a rise in JDW today. This is why its most important for you to ignore any of the rubbish I ever write on these boards.

I agree, its stopped its yo yo between 710 and 750 ish for longer than usual but I'm sure it will return to normal soon. Plus obviously holders get their 12p divi.

Being a FTSE250 I would have thought a return to dividend payments should bring it within the catchment of some funds that it was previously excluded from?

House of Fraser was once the top Department Store group in the UK and included Harrods. Now look at it, Rackhams in Birmingham and HoF in Telford are like jumble sales. Donnay, Fred Perry and Slazenger were top sports brands along with many other that he destroyed. Evans cycles and Wiggle were both great for the cycling community. This man is the kiss of death for quality.

Now less than 400p. How about the board abandon this proposed sale of the defence business, abandon this move to be a green consultancy and return to the business of innovative high end design and precision engineering that Ricardo was famous for over the past century.

Why would you plan to get rid of a very successful part of the business unless you have actually been approached by another party with an offer so good you can't refuse? Instead the RNS implies that this disposal is likely to dilute earnings and there is no competing parties as yet fuelling the receipt of a good price, in fact no interested party at all. I bought into a British engineering firm with a hugely proud history, and i thought not ashamed of that history. Now seems to be controlled by a board aiming to turn it into a fluffy consultancy pandering to those who want to save dolphins and find a better way to knit yogurt. In my opinion the share price reflects that.

I am not trying to be unnecessarily critical here, if I am wrong I really would like to hear others views.
