poorinvestor...the cheap nights in with streaming and BIG LED is even cheaper. Laden with debt, CINE have no money to invest either and hence the infrastructure will fall into disrepair and the whole thing will collapse. I would get out whilst there's still miniscule value left in the stock.

bankruptcy...threatening the petrodollar is/was an invisible red line for US, and yes this may have been one of the factors in toppling of Saddam, and sanctioning and destroying of Libya. I think China now has the power to topple the petrodollar but they would not do so as they hold nearly 1.5 trillion of them in reserves. All they have to do is buy oil from any country which accepts renminbi in payments and oil exporting countries would. Worlds second biggest customer India would buy oil from any country which would accept ruppee ahead of those insisting USD, hence future of petrodollar doesn't look as bright as it did just a few years ago.

pandamonia...you're spot on. Iraq invasion was the result of pressure from lobbyists in US and UK of some country in the mid east (clue: antisemitism) who saw Saddam Hussein posing a threat. It was not about oil, however, once they invaded the country, they tried recovering as much as possible by selling Iraqi oil until the day they left; just like what hey're currently doing in Syria, where US is digging approx 1m barrels of oil a day to pay for the cost of their occupation.

Minecheck...good assessment and I've given you an uptick. However, I don't agree with FXPO going nowhere anytime soon. In its latest reports, FXPO have said they have made significant progress in finding alternate routes to the sea to restore seabourne trade. Also, with tariff free access granted to Ukraine by the EU, I can see more shipments directed towards the EU countries, providing Ukraine rail infrastructure going west is kept in tact. I think shipments in the 3rd qtr will exceed the 2nd qtr as the company becomes more savvy at navigating this war.
I agree entirely with your assessment of this war, but would like to add that it could have been avoided by Ukraine altogether. Further, the support for Ukraine within both the governments and people in the west is falling by the day; lot less than 50% of population in the west wants to make sacrifice for Ukraine and support at governmental levels is falling as well eg. lot less aid have been given to Ukraine in the past 2 months than in the previous 2 months. With prolonged inflationary pressures, winter approaching, high posibility of Republicans gaining control of the House and the Senate in mid term elections later this year in US etc etc does not bode well for Ukraine. Russia will win both the hot war and economic war. People of Ukraine will pay a heavy price whilst Zelensky will retire away somewhere a very rich man.

Minecheck...I'm broadly in agreement with your analysis, but I don't see Russia reaching as far out as Dniper cos it would be too bigger area to control with majority ethnic Ukrainian population as they move further west. I think Russia wants full control of Donbas/Crimea and a bit more like the Khersion region for negotiating purpose. They will cease fire as soon as they have captured Donbas. There are already reports from the Kherson region that when Ukranian troops starts firing, the Russians respond with fire, and when Ukraine troops stops firing Russians stop as well.

paupucel...you say time is on the side of Ukraine; actually nothing could be further from the truth. Russia is winning the economic war and as a result the world is losing due to economic sanctions. There is a limit to what the world can endure and sacrifice for Ukraine. Further, Ukraine is largely supported by the US, and there are mid term elections coming up in few months, in which Republicans are expected to do well. Less than one third Republicans are in support of US providing aid to Ukraine; they see Ukraine as a european problem. It is the US congress/senate who signs off the money and the President then makes the decision to actually give it to Ukraine.

POWER...I'm in total agreement with your comment. I'd much rather live in the UK than anywhere in Russia or China, but like you've said, you have to call out when any country is doing right or wrong, and I've siad it right from the begining, this conflict (war) could have been avoided by Zelensky and UKraine cos what Russia was asking for was NOT unreasonable. For those not aware of Russian demands in Feb 2022, they were:
1) Cede Crimea to Russia. I'm not going to elaborate much except to say unlike Alaska (which US bought from Russia in 1867 for $7m), Crimea was given to Ukraine (without any quid pro quo few decades ago) and Russia just wanted it back.
2) Ukraine to drop accession ambitions to NATO membership in line with Minsk agreement
3) Ukraine to provide devolved governmants for the Donbas region (similar to Scotland, Wales, N Ireland assemblies in UK) which are predoninatly ethnic Russian
4) Ukraine to enshrine protection for Russian language and culture in its constitution (Zelensky was going rampant in eliminating all things Russian even in predominantly Russian areas)
5) Reign in on the right wing elements in Eastern Ukraine eg. Azov Batallion which Zelensky embraced and who were making life difficult for ethnic Russians.
If Zelensky could go back in time, he would accept all the above without any hesitation, but things have moved on and he has put himself in a very difficult position. Zelensky miscalculated...it's not going to end well for him.

Terraplane...you're missing the point. When have I supported what Putin and Russia did or does? You are slating Russia whilst classifying US UK as amongst civilised nations, and I have countered that. Russia have done many evil things, but in my opinion that is lot less compared to the what the so called 'civilised' world have done and been doing for centuries. Look at the flash points around the globe today and you will find UK will have had a hand in creating many of them (divide and rule).
Large swathes of Africa and Latin America (victims of US UK tyrrany) leaning towards Russia in this conflict is a testamony to what I'm trying to say here.
Again, get your facts right and go lecture the ignorants of this world.

Terraplane...when you mention civilised world, I'm assuming you are counting US and UK amongst them; two countries which have destabilised this world for centuries. Look what they did to Vietnam, Iraq, Libya etc from which we have still not recovered (mass migration), they've overthrown governments, they've sown seeds of hatred in order to conquer and rule and still not apologised eg. almost the entire Africa is leaning towards Russia in the current conflict, not because they have hatred towards Ukraine, but because they blame US UK for fanning the conflict.

alex1978uk...I'm certain Ukraine will get rid of Zelensky long before Putin goes, cos he has fkd up big time; read my previous posts. Further, Zelensky knows Republicans could make big gains in mid term elections in the US later this year, and they do not support Ukraine to the levels of Democrats, and hence this urgency to regain lost land before the elections. More Republicans view the war as a european problem and hence no need for US to to intervene.
Get real, Ukraine cannot win this war; talking peace is their best chance, and Zelensky and UKraine should be doing that before the whole country is turned into a rubble.

"New phase of war" initiated by US UK instead of urging Ukraine to talk peace. It is clear both US UK are fighting a proxy war against Russia using Ukraine. The higher the Russian casualties the BIGGER the price Russia will extract during negotiations. One thing is for sure, Ukraine cannot win this war no matter the level of support they get from outside. But does US UK care about this? No they don't as they can just walk away like they have done in many parts of the world. EU does care as they want to admit Ukraine at the earliest oportunity and with most of the coutry in tact. Following US UK advice and encouragement, Ukraine is heading into the abyss, as EU will let Ukraine wait for membership until the country gets back in sort of shape so as not to put too much strain on EU resources.

Minecheck...very realistic assessment of the situation. With death toll so high, I bet you men of fighting age are ducking and diving to get out of serving on front line; and that makes Ukraine's objective of taking back lost land a fantasy. It will be interesting to see global reaction (western reaction) when Russia stops firing, which will happen once they've captured whole of Donbas. Will Ukraine continue to get the support it currently has?
