Ytd gold is UP $114. The recent fall off in the price is being blamed on the French election of Macron winning round one. Silver is c $1 Up ytd. Bulls of gold are having a tough time of late. As ever it's just a day in the life.......

259.. Tracking declining gold & silver prices.

Gold clawed back some of the recent losses, current $1274. The jobbers will have one eye on Thursdays Q1 nos so won't want to be short of stock despite metal prices having a drag on HOC. No idea how the market will view excellent nos as I have nothing to compare it too. Is HOC's sp boosted by stellar nos, do we have any previous evidence? My jaundiced view is that however good they are, most likely the sp will track UP to sideways to let out the day traders & profit takers. The H/Y nos will give us a better feel for the likely year end rev's & profits. With a nav of 224 we are probably up with events pro tem.

Q1 results: Gold production UP 17% to 450koz: Ore processed UP4% Ore mined UP 26%. Gold sales est at $600m UP 19% with av selling price $1258.

#3bn worth of 'paper' gold was sold in the London OTC market on 19/4 crashing Gold to $1270.

Asian bourses turn up so ftse/Dow both to open blue.

Seer very good luck next week....I hope it's a gusher!! PS..I'm your senior by 4 years...heh heh heh!! Agree with the Barrow boys manipulating prices seen it in many stocks before. Nothing one can do about it other to act on sp's that do not reflect intrinsic value...assuming there is any of course! HOC is a lot more liquid than my blood thing where the Barrow boys sometimes quote for 10 shares! Yet the next day there happy to quote for 200k. As I regularly post "it's but a snapshot in time" no use in bemoaning the sp performance, look beyond the end of your nose, etc, etc...not what day traders want to hear I grant you but us lth's should try a bit of 'masterly inactivity' now and again! Hope HOC gets the week off in the blue column though the ftse looks to be heading south first thing so may take the miners with it?

From your recent posts I ascertain your a trader at heart! I used to trade in the account (10 days) for large sums, as back in the day with a friendly stock broker you could have massive leverage for nil cash, all trades settled on the Friday. Of course you had to have a broker on the floor looking after your deals which was not available to everyone! Had some winners I can tell you. Come Big Bang that was me finished as was for many small brokers so I had to adopt a buy and hold strategy with my father's brokers (James Capel) and they frowned on account traders! Of course the Internet has taken over the small brokers 'advice and personal service' as now everybody is trying to front run. That's progress I guess but I know when I enjoyed tilting at the market and it sure ain't now! Getting on in years my attention span and trading nous is not fit for purpose and as much as I like a punt share trading is not for me. I think the capital you have to employ is really only for the few with very long pockets else your chasing ever more deals to make a turn. Of course I'm guessing as I have been out of the day to day stuff for years. I hope it works for you!

My own plans have been for the last 3 years on hold as my large invstmt in a med device Co (SPHR) has gone very much the wrong way, leaving me well in the doghouse! My fault for "all your eggs in"....which the sp reminds me every day! But I knew the risk/reward odds and I still believe there is hope but I may be clutching at straws. My HOC buy came as a result of a tender offer which I accepted.... else I'd be down the bookies so to speak! I don't hold enough here for it to hurt should the stock not perform as I expect so my interest will be limited, if you get what I mean?....hence zero cash flow after my essentials, wine betting and booze! Speak soon.

Morning seer. SDX fundamentals certainly look good...so best of luck. But as I said I have had my fill of o...lies! I know I should judge on a case by case basis but sometimes I can be pig headed over stocks and o...lies are my bete noir atm.

Of the 16 mining stocks tracked in my paper HOC was the only riser yesterday!

Over the years Gold & Silver follow similar patterns, recently Gold had become more expensive despite there being much more Gold above ground than Silver. Can't remember how much more but it's a considerable amount. Another reason for Golds popularity over Silver is that it is more widely used in the jewel business. However the ratio between the two, ie how many ounces of silver can you buy with one ounce of Gold usually favours Gold in the ratio of between 30:1~ 80:1. I'm sure there are other factors to explain the price difference but I look at precious metals as a great hedge against currencies being devalued by Govts printing money, inflation and political uncertainties. The daily spot prices are really for traders and don't concern me. Like shares there may have been millions traded over thousands of bargains but you only want to know did the stock close up or down.

Landed up pretty much break- even on a share price tanking c 30p on the wk so no moaning from me! Next wk we'll catch th QI nos on Thursday so would expect to see the sp rise towards the announcement reflecting the gold & silver increased prices and better production volumes throughout Q1. Pity there was no cash or shares option. I know which one I would have taken.

Agree Eish all mine tending sideways to down, it's what I have come to expect so am rarely disappointed! As you say us small time investors are fodder for the unscrupulous jobbers hence I hold for the longterm to smooth out irregular perverse moves by others...er, that's as polite as I can put it. They say value will out....eventually, well perhaps, but never in my stocks or so it seems! Regretably I have a very jaundiced view of the market so anything I say will be 'coloured' & best ignored. I own only 4 stocks at present, 3 are LT holds & newly aquired HOC already set to go lower! Curse of the Friday 'reds'.....

Who said...."fast women & slow horses"? Sums up my life!
