Talks are set to resume Thursday, a day later than expected.

US mrkts tanked from the bell the Dow fell 471 to 26033 the days low on Trump tweets re tariff hikes starting on Friday.
Overnight SH & HK had fallen c.4-5.6% with TK still closed.

Yet within minutes the Dow reversed direction as buyers piled in thinking the fall had been overdone and the Chinese delegation would arrive for talks in Washington.
The indices steadied and by close the Dow was down just 66 (26438) the 500 off 13 (2932) and the Nsdq fell 41 (8123).

No sooner had mrkts closed than Dow futures were heading south again on comments from Tres Sec that talks have gone 'substantially backwards'

Treacherous Teacher trying to cobble together a deal with Corbo, a Brexit of sorts.... well one far removed from the simple 'In or Out' of the referendum faces the disintegration of the Tory Party and wrath of the country. Not that bothers her one whit.

Labour are split, though not digging themselves a crater the size of Teachers
many Lab MPs are opposed to the MayCorbo stitch up to evade fighting the Euro elections this may play into Nige's hands.
Farrage may be a one issue campaigner but he has disaffected voters flocking to the Brexit Party.

So, when Teacher is through damaging the spirit of free enterprise, ignoring small businesses,
bailing out on new home building, the crazy rates system of our High St, an overburdened and overtaxed people bedevilled by red tape, she will have done Barniers calling and can skulk back to her constituency if she has one left, happy in a job well done, happy she has divided the party from her donor base, happy to see an inept pro Marxist sitting in No 10 plotting the destruction of the economy.
So staggeringly inept she has been, she couldnt even deliver a One Nation approach to face off a Lab leader enthralled by Venezuelan state despotism.
That will be her legacy.

Asian mrkts plunge as trade negotiations between the US & China are on the verge of collapse after Trump tweeted he would raise tariffs on $325bn worth of Chinese goods as early as this Friday by c.10-25%.

This may be a negotiating tactic by Trump who feels talks are going too slowly and China concessions are insufficient. China has threatened to withdraw from the next round in Washington.

Stock futures on US exchanges sank as much as 3% at one stage. Currently the Dow called 500 down.
In the Far East (TK & SK closed) HK is off nearly 1000 points all sectors were hit with the HK Property Index down 1174 points (3%) and the SHCOMP down 5% (160) with the smaller SHENZEN falling 6%.
Pan Pacific mrkts fell in sympathy all off c.1-3% with Gold adding just $3 to $1284. WTI & Brent off 2.2%.

Buying G at the 2017 lows and selling at the late '17 highs woyld be very prescient or perhaps fortunate if you had managed it.
As most of us don't achieve such feats of financial wizardry the straight line progression over 3 years is c.100 to 217 smoothing out the Low to High numbers.

That's not too shabby imo if your a cert- in- the- bottom- drawer- investor- type.
Boyo your analysis is correct regarding the sp but as mentioned the buy & hold strategy takes out the 'what if' I had done this or that, trying to time your in out points etc...the essence of B&H'ing is to
stop one making a bad decision or becoming too emotional (getting fed up) with a stock.

I'd have liked to have bought down in the 70s and sold in the 290s but I didn't. Some trader type investors may well have done but in at 100 and still holding at 217 would satisfy most I think.

So considering your detailed points on 'what not to like' and I fully agree G has done pretty well over the period 16-19 if your of a more realistic nature.
I have scaled back my 500 target to a more sensible 300 though I see the fundamentals to support 500 (twice plus...the current bopd might do it), the mrkt disagrees and as we know the mrkt rules So don't be holding your breath!

Look at it this way. If I had said to you buy G at c.100 in Jan 2016 and you cannot look at the sp for 2 years what would you accept given a fair wind?
Obviously id wanna look at what the OP and mrkts etc..had done and try and fig where they would be in 2019 so in my case probably 150 ish, actual was 178.

So G holders will be receiving their first div payment shortly...Huuraahh I hear you say. Buyers appeared following the announcement pushing the shares to 228.
I hope the div final 10c, c.7.6p (interim of 5c to follow) compensates you for the drop in the sp since.
Another benefit is the increasing div yield (3.5%) on the shares if that's your
thing?
Good for the iis and big pis holders but of little interest to a smallholder like me.

Today in the 2000 Guinness I fancy a 25/1 long shot Shine so Bright 1/5 ×4 in places. A little ew for an interest.

Cheerful jobs data sparked a jump in shares on Friday the DJ up 197 (26505). The non farm payroll grew by 263.000 in April and unemployment at a near 50 year low (3.6%) albeit on a smaller workforce sent invstrs home in a happy mood.

Also boosting sentiment on stocks was news of WB buying Amazon stock (up $61 to $1962). He admits he's late to the Amazon party.
However his 255.3m Apple's are doing well making up for some shockers Wells Fargo, Kraft Heinz & Coca Cola.
However BHs compounded annual gain since 1965 in per share bk value is 18.7% and per share mrkt value 20.5% compared to the 500 (Inc dividends) of 9.7%. Some record!

I tend to pluck nos out of the thin air especially for the FC competition.

To date this method has proved a winning strategy much to my amazement I might add, so as to level the playing field i intend to excuse myself from entering for the next month or so...it's only fair I give someone else a chance, heh heh heh!

I shall take the tip from Mr Player and go practice some golf instead.

The mrkt had other ideas and in late afternoon stocks turned south the Dow falling c.200 in the last hour dragging the 500, Nsdq & R2 in its wake.

G 79 v Gkp 10....must be a record bunks, 70 of them were yours... Heh heh heh!!

An encouraging outlook and forecast beating nos from Apple sent the shares up 5% after hours.
Improving performance from China, it's services division, trade-in iphone and price cuts in EMarkts
helped stem an earlier fall.

Google had its worst trading day it's Q1 nos failed to excite and the stock fell $97 to $1199 taking the Nsdq down 66 to 8095. The Dow pushed up 39 (26593) and the 500 added 3 (2946) with the small cap R2000 off 7 (1591).

I like that Hasiba..sell half and stay in cash. Probably the bigest regret of my investing career was in the two major mrkt panics i was always short of cash, unable to pick up oversold quality stocksDont make the same mistake.
