On Wall St overnight Trump suggested he's willing to take a less confrontational approach to trade talks with China predicting the current 145% tariff on Chinese imports will come down substantially. He also said he will not play hardball with Xi Jinping " were gonna be very nice."
In response China also expressed willingness to resume talks provided Washington halts its threats. Adding to the positive sentiment Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said "there is an opportunity for a big deal, if they want to rebalance let's do it together." "This is an incredible opportunity."
Wall St gained following strong moves higher for stocks across Europe and Asia. The market hit a days high of 40,376 as investors responded to Trump's more sensible approach to tariffs.
However as the day progressed investors took profits sending the Dow down to the days low of 39,487 before closing better at 39,607.
The Nsdq soared nearly 5% reaching 19,043 high at one time as traders returned to oversold techs. However like the Dow investors took profits throughout the session leaving the index at 18,693 a healthy gain of 417 points. Palantir Tech & Marvell Tech stood out with above average gains.
Of the top thirty Dow blue chips 12/30 fell led down by Coca Cola, Verizon and Travellers. Leading the risers Boeing, Amazon and Nvidia. All in a satisfying day for investors and traders alike. However all the major indexes remain down this year led by the Russell 2000 off 15% followed by the Nsdq 11% the S&P 9% and the Dow 7%.
Interesting to note on a global basis this year the only major stock mrkts showing gains are Bombay, London, HK, Singapore and S.Korea.
Morning all.
