Apple kept the Nsdq 100 ticking over yesterday on news it was planning a push into vehicle & battery production, shares $4 better at $132 on 168•2m traded. By late afternoon the Nsdq was up 10 having traded in a 160 point range and hitting an intraday record of 12,761.
The Dow, S&P & R2 saw profit taking, continuing yesterday's mini sell off. Many think the mrkts look pricey and investors are selling now & asking questions later. Some poor economic nos didn't help, Home sales fell in Nov and consumer confidence nos took a hit. US GDP came in at an annualised distorted 33% growth rate in Q3 as expected. Crude fell to a days low of $46•52 on a near 3mboe build up of inventory last week. No sooner had the $893bn stimulus bill been agreed when up pops Trump threatening to veto the bill without major changes. If so the Govt could shut down on Monday.
Stay at home stocks (Zoom, Flix, Amazon) surprisingly fell in early dealings even on news of the new mutation of the virus and global infection spikes locking down Cities and Countries which should benefit them. On Monday 200,000 new cases were reported continuing the upward trend to over 18•5m cases for the year.
Talking stock Tesla was unloved and fell $25 to $640 for a 2 day $70 drubbing on 51•6m trades. Tracker funds have yet to buy Tesla in meaningful volumes. The best performer was trendy exercise bike maker Peloton its stock jumped $17 to $161 on its $420m offer for fitness equipment maker Pretoria. Boeing documents appear to point to a very disturbing picture of commentary from employees over the MaxJet according to a US Govt committee. Shares up $1 to $219. Scuttlebut about the MaxJet has been rife for many months and Boeing is probably the most scrutinised of all quoted companies.
Topping the big board Apple, Salesforce, Mercury & Msoft.
Heading South, Amgen, GS & Walgreens ($39) which has been accused of fuelling the opioid crisis, strongly denied by the Company.
On the NYSE 11bn shares changed hands losers outrunning risers by 1•3:1 with 23 new 52s & no new lows.
