Stocks in the Far East turned better as US futures suggested the Dow would open up c.500 later today. At one time the 225 was down 400, HK 230 lower and SH off 40. In Australia the ASX200 fell to a 20 day low losing 100 at open but has bounced as bottom fishers piled into oversold travel & energy stocks.
Early trades saw Brent up c.5% to $75 with Gold putting on $9 to $1794, the USD flat at $1•334. London is called up c.90 at open on back of Asian mrkts stabilising.

Investors are trying to assess the damage of this omicron variety which is in its early stages. Countries reporting cases are UK, Ger, Belgium, Australia, France, Canada, Israel and HK. Initial reports point to it not being as severe as covid 1 but could be more transmissable with 100 cases reported as of Sat. The full impact won't be known for a few weeks. Meanwhile more countries are imposing restrictions and banning travel to S.Africa.
