Big tech share prices were hit in widespread declines as stocks on the Street closed at their lowest levels in a month. After an upbeat start to the year the Dow has wiped out its gains.
Tesla, Msoft, Googl and Amazon were all down between 2% & 5% with Home Depot the Nations no 1 home improvement chain slumping 7% due to weak demand. Bellwether Walmart's full year earnings came in below estimates and warned of margin squeezes.
The falls were responding to the Global Purchasing Manufacturing Index returning to expansion for the first time in 8 months. Business activity paints a picture of a resilient economy where rates are set to stay higher for longer. That sent investors into a 'tizzy' and stocks closed at their lowest on the session.
