Asian stock's tumbled ahead of the US mrkts opening. Concerns about the health of the US banking sector prompted a sell off in banks and techs in Tokyo & Shanghai.

Silicon Valley Bank plunged 60% after the tech-focussed Bank said it would raise $2bn in extra capital to offset losses on bond sales. Earlier the crypto Bank Silvergate said it would wind down operations following a Bank run and would voluntarily liquidate. Investors took fright and stocks fell from the bell the Dow closing off 345 to its lowest level in 4 months.

Gold gained, oils were weaker on demand concerns. T/bills eased after data showed the nos of unemployed claiming benefits rose more than expected. US equities are expected to bounce back on Monday.

Morning all.

Holy crap a stock I nearly invested in 2 months ago has been suspended this morning due to suspected fraud of many millions.

Yikes that was too close for comfort. I swerved Wandisco in favour of YU group then changed my mind again. Only a couple of days ago the CEO was in the city talking up the stock.

Something very rotten went on here. Investors face a total wipe out.

Morning all.

The half year report of Dec 7th 2022 reported favourable progress through the US Navy multi phased weapons procedure approvals was going to plan. Later the same month we landed our first contract for the land based MG System.

That was 4 months ago to the day. My bet we will hear some news before the year end results in late June. We know defense contracts are a torturous procedure to go through and rightly given the importance for national security.

MSi rarely blow their own trumpet, the reports are brief factual and to the point. Evidence the RNS notice on winning our first land based gun contract. You'd have thought we'd been awarded the keys to a new chip shop on Bentley Rd not a multi million USD Defense contract.

Thats fine, under promise and over deliver every time. I don't need the 'dressing' just more meat and potatoes.

Fed Chair Powell's testimony before the Senate Banking Committee warned markets int rates will stay higher for longer. Citing stubbornly elevated inflation and stronger economic data he said "we are prepared to reaccelerate the pace of rate hikes if incoming data warrants".

This spooked investors tanking the Dow 575 points. Decliners outnumbered advances by 4:1 on 11•17bn traded, the average daily vol of late. Investors now think there's a 70% chance of a 50 bp hike in rates. The next monetary policy meeting is scheduled for March 20-21.

Hope Paul Young is taking a leaf out of Warren Buffet's book of buying companies v buying stocks. I quote....

Charlie and I look for companies that have a) a business we understand; (b) favourable long'term economics; (c) able and trustworthy management; (d) a sensible price tag.

We like to buy the whole business or if management is our partner, at least 80 percent. We avoid businesses we can't evaluate no matter how exciting their products may be.

Since the ipo Paul hasn't put a foot wrong and the mrkt agrees, long may it continue.

Since the recent renewal of interest in Panthera it seems sensible to add the daily trading vols under P/vol as below.

I have shares in a W.African gold miner that we have full rights to develop as agreed by all the lower courts. Our claim for c.$6•5bn has been stuck in the Indian High Court system for over 8 years facing objection after objection and no resolution in sight.

G may win an award getting paid is another matter. See also Cairn Energy. Those bastardos will never pay up.

Defo agree with you Pk73. And yea these bloody sell /buy trade nos misrepresented more often than not is a constant bugbear.

The bulls are in total control here with over 190,000 traded this morning. This is going to be a very good year for this under-valued company. Still a buy up to 300+ as this acquisition hungry company continues to expand across the UK.

Yea mickey1122 is right only 704,000 of the prev days 5•5m have traded, many in the buy column....your typical tree shake. Add if you can imo.

Hamstrung by that den of thieves outside of downing tools we have few options. A good few of us were here
during Haywards reign which was disastrous for pis whilst he swanned around the Royal Yacht Club with his sailing mates. I believe he won some crappy dingy race after many attempts.

At least the board can now...with a straight face....cut the dividend and blame the KRG.

An RNS that the 5•5m trading vol on Friday wasn't all hot air would have been the icing on the cake. The trading vols were so out of the ordinary (of late) it would have been nice to get confirmation of sorts we have resolved our disagreement with the GOR. Let's hope MB is finalising
a statement to the mrkts so we can be rid of the uncertainty going forward.

Payment rec'd...getting screwed again!

Far Eastern mrkts are following Wall's better performance on Friday. Tokyo closed 310 up, lifted above 28,200 thanks to Autos, techs & exporters. Mrkt heavyweight Softbank (not a Bank) climbs over 3% responding to upbeat data from China.

Markets across Pacifica are all higher only Singapore bucking the trend. In Australia the ASX200 ended the day 44 better, only 300 off its all-time high of 7633 last seen in Aug 2021.

Crude oil ($85) reversed an early sell off after the UAE denied a report it was considering leaving OPEC. Gold was steady ($1855) after gaining $35 last week.

This week Fed Chair Powell will testify to the Senate Banking Committee while the mrkts have the non farm payrolls to digest on Friday. Consensus is for 200,000 new job positions a big drop from last months 500,000. Unemployment is expected to remain at 3•4% the lowest since 1969.
