There would also be a Outline Plan for the Equipment.
? PPE
? Ventilators
? Test Equipment
The outline plan milestones would be monitored on a weekly basis. It would have the appropriate milestones for drugs listed below such as design, manufacture and test where appropriate approval. If this monitoring showed no drugs could be approved the Project Team would know this at an early stage and could take appropriate action.
Development of Treatment for COVID 19
At a suitable stage in the project when some treatments have made significant progress the total project should be reviewed with a view to bringing it to completion.
The UK is in a fortunate position there are two candidates, one Imperial College and the other Oxford University. The Oxford University vaccine is more advanced so will be considered at this phase.
At this stage no Plasma Results announced
The following will be projects will be selected
Vaccine : Oxford University
Approved Treatments: Dexamethasone There appear to be some anomalies in the results that are
being checked. The results from all patients on Dexamethasone trial indicated a mortality rate of 21.6 %for usual care and 24.6% for those on Dexamethasone for those not on Oxygen and Mechanical Intervention.
This did not indicate a significant difference so not considered a candidate at this stage.. See Annexe B Dexamethasone Recovery Report
Novel Treatments: Synairgen has announced positive results from trial of SNG001. The odds of developing severe disease (e.g. requiring ventilation or resulting in death) during the treatment period (day 1 to day 16) were significantly reduced by 79% for patients
It is not true to say that the only way to prevent the spread of COVID 19 is a vaccine. It is only true if there are no proven Approved Treatments, Novel Treatment or Plasma. The present palliative treatment is very expensive because of the number of days the patients are in hospital, the equipment needed and the medical care. Synairgen SNG001, can be used to treat patients at home or a centre for this purpose. This would be considerably cheaper than hospital resources and free up resources for patients that do not have COVID 19.
What should be investigated are Oxford Vaccine
? The number of volunteers in the UK for the Oxford Vaccine
? Time frame to demonstrate the Vaccine is Safe
? Time frame to Approve the Vaccine
Approved Treatments
? Decision on whether to approve Dexamethasone or not
? The resources to approve Dexamethasone
? Whether to fast track other Drugs
? Whether to cancel Recovery and invest in pipeline antiviral
Novel Drugs
? The resources in terms of patients to ensure SNG001 is safe
? The resources in terms of patients to approve SNG001
? The Timescales
