Never mind Juri. I wanted to see Jupiter and Saturn tonight in conjunction in the SW sky, (lst time they were this close was 1623), but no chance, no little fluffy clouds here in Essex, only thick solid cloud cover and rain. I'm going to have to see Saturn and Jupiter vicariously through others. Did anyone see them please? Anyone have a telescope as well as their naked eye and can see all their moons? Did anyone see Formalhaut or Mercury with them? Someone must have seen them :(((

I must read my emails. Been invited to a Q&A teleconference with Rick Rule. 23rd December at 11 am Pacific Time. Anyone know that song, 'Do they know it's Christmas?' I'll be eating and drinking, no, make that more eating. Q&A on 23rd, I ask you. He still rates GGP a 4, by the way.

Thanks everybody. The good thing is, we have new reliable plumbers/gas engineers now and my mother was not too upset by it all once she got her house cleaned up and tidy.

An out of hours tale:

Focused on shares and other chores today, I went downstairs mid morning to sound of loud air pressure going through gas pipes. Big gas leak up the road so I called the gas transporter co in. They came, they listened to mysterious loud sound in the hall, declared it was water not gas, fitted a new regulator to the gas meter and left. My T handle was at my other house so I couldn't turn water off in the street. I called Water Board. No can do. Called usual plumber. No reply. Called second plumber. Not in. Filled every bucket I could find with water in case no water over weekend. After ringing round neighbours for plumbers, a new, third plumber came in half an hour, wearing a mask. He looked under the floorboards to find stop**** and exposed raging torrent worthy of Niagara Falls. He exclaimed, 'Bloody hell!' and sent photo to his boss (no doubt for the OMG notice board). I always wanted a swimming pool, just not under the entire house. Half an hour later, 25mm into 15 mm into 9 mm pipes all fixed with new vacuum suction inner and new connectors. Swimming pool subsiding. Plumber said it would have been a slow leak since the boiler was fitted, two years ago, which finally exploded today. I had to reset the boiler because it had gone back to 2010 factory reset and gas man had bug*ered off without resetting it. Carpet up, floorboards drying, dinner devoured. Now I only have to find a way of castrating my son-in-law who fitted new boiler and central heating system and who swore blind on a conference call tonight (with my daughter giggling in the background) that neither he nor his gas fitters had gone anywhere near the stop**** and those pipes! Good job my daughter says she doesn't want children. Insult added to injury when my son-in-law, usually mega busy, said, 'Why didn't you call me? I was only round the corner!' Aggghh.

Finally back on here to see that SP is up at 34p. It's not as much as I thought it might be, but it's still in the right direction, and I'll take that any day. Looking forward to next week.

Interesting thread. Just in case anyone wants the other end of the scale - you can set up a linked S&S ISA for an adult, or elderly person, provided you have a Lasting Power of Attorney for them (in your name, obviously). Just complete the form and email it to your broker with a copy of the POA. Warning, though, the broker will charge full fees for the new 'linked' ISA, so any amount going in has to be substantial to swallow the £10 or £20 per month fees, or whatever fees apply.
