Kieffy, that is not right, the shares won’t be dripped in to the market over a two year period as they are locked up for the first year. They can be sold in the second year assuming the broker decides it can be done in an orderly way. Quite a difference.

I am told that the people who run gdxj were told that their index was too narrow and needed to have many more companies in it so as not to affect their sp too much. So they widened the criteria and many new stocks were added on the close. To create the funds pretty much all original constituents were sold on the close too.

No problem Tymers. The free float relates to the number of shares in issue that are not held by company insiders. Free carry is however a position in shares where there has been no cost in acquiring them.
Despite your superb skills in trading I very much doubt that you own the free float, which is about 4billion shares, after all you dont even understand pretty basic market terminology.

FWIW I can think of lots of places where I dont want to put my money but not many where I do. Thats why I have sold down my Solgold position to the point where it wont hurt me too much if we are back in low to mid 20s. As always, love the asset, still dont trust the management and any thought of developing on our own will surely lead to disaster.
I would have thought that the FTSE will hold up better than most indices as the £ will be weak and it has a lot of miners which should still do well, but I still wont be buying that in the 7000s. I havent been in broad markets for ages, so I did miss some of the run up, but enjoying the relative outperformance now.
So where to invest? I am choosing to invest in me and friends and family, having a good time. At my age thats about the best or only thing to do.
Given my reduced exposure to this company I probably wont post much here now. I hope that you all get what you want - which I appreciate is impossible given the diverse (word used properly Q!) views.

Des, I am sorry that you have had a bit of abuse this weekend. Of course no one knows the truth behind any of the posters posts, but I prefer to see honesty until proven otherwise.
So get your mate to open an account with a respectable platform (I would only consider HL, Barclays or IG), stick some money in it and buy slowly and steadily, giving him some pound cost averaging. If he wants a more personal service, and doesn’t mind being pestered, open an account with a real stockbroker.
It’s pretty easy to buy 250k clips of shares without moving the price on most days.
If he gets excited as a lot of us are, get him to do some research on gold, the financial system and most importantly Ggp, and to a lesser extent NC.
After all that he can then send Shaun an email and introduce himself…
