If you know anything about Newcrest you will know they won’t be buyers but sellers of Solgold.
They haven’t pleased their shareholders with asset purchases in the past two years. They have problems at wafi golpu, lihir and telfer and major expenditure at Cadia, red Chris, pretium and havieron. Their sp has halved and they are ultra conservative.
For these reasons I think their stake could be bought for about 45p.

Slug, I don’t think that NC want it at all. I am sure that if barrick or the Chinese wanted to start the bidding they could get the NC stake and be on par with Bhp in an instant.

Maybe the fund raising failed because BHP and NCM were the only ones Peel Hunt could guarantee would support the fund raising and Solgold didnt want their increased % ownership?
Either way just shows what management know about fund raising....in the holidays.....only for the desperate.

RK, my reference to those two companies is that one had a bid battle and the other was rescued by a less than generous bid by a major. I think I know which one is coming for Solgold.

Solgold is toast one way or another and the best way for all concerned is to have it sold off asap. The alternative is something that is a lot closer to Sirius than Noront imo.

Three basic errors in what you just said JC. The 5% was a forced sale, its a price not a value and so cannot be extrapolated. After the sale GGP will own 25% not 100%. Lastly better check the mkt cap. We have 4.286b shares fully diluted.

WF, if the 'shorts are redeemed using shares they already own' then they arent short.
You cant be long and short, as all will be netted out.

If you lend stock, you dont retain the voting rights. The borrower wont have them either as they will presumably have sold what they borrowed. The borrower will be required to keep the lender 'whole' on any corp action (like divis splits etc) but not on voting.

Of course its a self world view if I understand the meaning of that phrase. Its my opinion. Also based on the fact that Ingo was in charge of raising the funds to go mining. Now that he has gone who is going to do that Quady?
I just look at the facts and the fact is that the chief enabler for funding the development of Alpala is tending his veg garden.

After a couple of somewhat flippant comments, I will put forward my serious opinion.
Ingo has left because he would have been instrumental in sorting the funding for the Quady option -mining. That he has gone suggests to me that at the least this will be handled out of the world financial capital that is Brisbane, or (the most likely) that they dont need any financing for going mining, cos there is another solution imminent.
Lisa definitely appears to have been fired. Relative junior, no job to go to and a specific nice thing to say about her close colleagues, and specifically nothing nice to say about other colleagues.
There appears to be a clear out happening.....

So BHP bid in shares for Solgold and the deal is accepted. Q accepts BHP shares for his Solgold stake and then BHP announce that they are to develop Alpala and mine it.
Q announces that he was right all along, as his shares are going mining. And so history is rewritten, and we never have to read his version of the truth again. Yay!
