Just found the actual link, 4% dividend increase, nice
Growing dividend?
I’m far from an expert, but this seems to be a share that for a while has been quite happily bouncing between the daily bollinger bands. We hit the lower one, so hopefully will see 330ish in the next couple of weeks unless something big happens
Well, lesson learnt, I pulled the emergency chute at 102 and took the 50 pound loss after fees. Seems like day trading isnt the game for me!
I have been reading up on some trading strategies recently so as an experiment I’ve bought a little extra away from my main position at 103.5 on the basis that there doesn't seem to be a clear trend at the moment and it breached the lower bollinger band on the hourly and daily. Anyone who knows anything about trading able to comment if that is a sensible interpretation? Its only a small position so this is much more about learning than making or losing any real money, most of which is held for much longer term. Thanks
Had that happen with the first gamestop craze where i bought at 40 and sold at 380, it meant i paid off my student loan but can’t help think what if only I had put more money in!! On the other hand i had the opposite experience where I bought into crypto at the worst time, bought cardano at 2.05 thinking it had dipped nicely only to see it go to 1.05 within a couple of days. Thankfully we’re back up a bit but still carrying a decent bag there.
It’s interesting how many of us on here are at a similar position in life, I’m 33 and have taken my savings from 28k in November to around 60k now thanks to online investing, had pulled the lot out to buy a house a couple of months ago, but the housing market is too hot right now, I still can’t afford the kind if house I’m looking for, so back into the market hoping to turn it into 100k in the next couple of years. Currently mostly holding BP, RR, PLTR (got in at 18 the other day, I’m hoping this will be a multibagger over the next year or so) and ADA on the crypto side, though i can see this turning into a long term hold..
Haha yes, I tried to stay away but will admit I had a look at some of the shares I was in yesterday, and saw this! Whilst I wait for the right house to come up I have been thinking of putting a little back in the market to keep life interesting, as I find I follow the news a lot less keenly since getting out. PFC was high on my list but I was waiting for the potential sales from funds once it drops out of the FTSE, in retrospect a lucky decision. I think even with my reduced pot this is a little too hot for me right now, but best of luck!
Lehman Brothers?

Thanks all,
The last couple of months have been a hell of a ride. First ever share bought was in November, and in that time I have gone from life savings of 28k that had been accumulating in a cash isa over the past 5 years to now 48K cash + a 6K overpayment to clear my student loan. its been way more than I could hope for, and frankly nearly all fluke and lucky timing, so though it will undoubtedly nag at me to see this rocket over the coming weeks, I’m happy to quit whilst ahead! Plus my wife and I found out last week we are expecting another child, so need to get on that housing ladder while we can still borrow against her salary, as who knows if she’ll go back to work!
As I say I’ve learnt a lot, especially from the fine folks on this board, and who knows I may be back once saving for school fees starts!
All the best
James
I’ve sold up, hit my investing target of house deposit+ fees and potential stamp duty. Very likely it will head up further but not sure I can cope with the house dream finally being real and then having another drop to 260ish. Thanks all for the education and good humour on this board, GLA!
Apologies all for the red US open, I tske full responsibility as I finally came back in at 111..
Hi Ceders, can I just check that you are still treating the gap as 2.92 then rather than 2.88 post dividend?
Thanks
To those who know there charts, does the 292 gap now become 288 after dividend or is it the empt space on the chart that matters?
Happy, I agree the UK is small fry, but my fear is that presumably as a nation at the relative forefront of vaccination, for us to say international travel potentially August at the earliest suggests the rest of the world probably won’t open up much earlier, so aviation fuel demand should still be suppressed for quite a while, keeping refinery profits low?
A more relevant post:
If travel doesnt resume till August, and indeed given vaccine progress UK may be one of the first countries to open, what is the likelihood of a new share issue here?
Have been looking for an entry point, and wonder if this news well force new (negative) forecasts on 11th March
I guess the point is that if the most vulnerable are vaccinated the impact of schools opening should be a lot less deadly, and the government is prioritising children’s return to education. Don’t forget there is also a testing regime in schools now to try and limit spread. As a teacher I have way less work to do in virtual school, and life is much easier (if more dull), but it’s definitely not the same educationally, and possibly more importantly socially for the kids. Certainly from most of my non-teaching friendship group, if you gave them the option of personal higher covid risk and an end to homeschooling they would bite your arm off! I do, however, think its a bit of a disgrace that schools haven’t been fitted with proper ventilation systems like in germany, and it’s never encouraging to hear BoJo answer any questions on schools with “schools are absolutely safe” when they are objectively not..
According to the times we might be waiting till august for foreign travel, which if it acts as an indication for the rest of the world isn’t exactly encouraging from the point of view of aviation fuel use
Out of curiosity Tacet (or others), do you know why the Fibonacci ratios are used in trading? There are so many sequences out there and so many useful mathematical ratios, why is it that these ones are used in technical analysis? As a mathematician this is that part that always gets me about TA, these things seem to be chosen arbitrarily, and yet seem to work!
Haha yep i followed the advice but panic topped up at around 276, gained a whole 15 shares, not sure I have the constitution for trading!
My understanding, which may well be incorrect as I am new to investing, is that if you sell a stock but buy it again within 31 days, you don’t use up any CGT allowance (assuming you buy the same amount etc). So if I made 10K profit in a year, sold it at the start of april but then used the same money to rebuy the stock on say 15th April, my CGT allowance would not be used so if I sold it at a further 10k profit in say September my capital gains would be 20k and I would have to pay some tax
