Not quite the day I expected! Step back......years ago when I started posting on lse I made some great friends on and off-line when we were chasing down cosalt. Can’t remember quite how that one turned out but the bb was a source of support, reassurance, humour at times and some enduring friendships. Not critiquing anyone as it’s not my intention but equally just thought I’d make the point that some of us might be feeling a tad fragile from this drop and clearly the up/down arguments have merit and no one knows where we’ll end up(hopefully up!) but whilst we all pursue our agendas maybe there’s room for a bit of that ‘cosalt sentiment’? Anyway good luck all...
Evening all, hope everyone had a good day. Apart from watching the airline haven’t done much on shares except help a friend spend their SLA credit on boring safe stuff. Curry was good, headache worse lol
Evening all. Just when I thought things were heading back up the stupid politics and brexit etc give us a good kicking, plus the white knuckle ride called Flybe which has distracted me today! Off out for beer and curry with the gang shortly so that’ll take my mind off it all. Hope everyone doing okay and not looking at their portfolios too closely as it really isn’t pleasant viewing aaaarrrrghhhhh
Scratching my head on this one, volatile SP or what! Glad to see a positive RNS on a sensible sale/leaseback manoeuvre raising a chunk of cash. Unexpected and I’d like to think it’ll be well received tomorrow....for a change lol. Trying not to get too involved in this one hasn’t worked out for me as I’ve chased it down more than I planned but hopefully it’ll pay off. Small float has probably created extra volatility but the facts remain that assets clearly have value and they’ve just realised one here seemingly from nowhere! Whether we get taken out at whatever price who knows but I’d like to think today’s white-knuckle ride won’t repeat itself for all our sakes! Sentiment clearly in play here and assets particularly the ‘slots’ have value. GLA
Makes sense plus a good way to drain boggy ground too. Burns well too, quite aromatic!! Drax, had them on and off over the years too. Right chaps I’m heading off now. Good chatting, catch up soon.
They certainly get going once established but haven’t figured out how to propagate them yet. The willows are easiest as just cut lengths off and stick them as deep in the ground as you can. Cost nothing too. If we end up with some ground down this way I’ll plant loads of them!!
It’s a possibility but needs more sheltered/garden type positions I reckon. Gets a bit too chilly up in the East Midlands for them I reckon although have got one at home in the garden.
Six thousand planted so far give or take so anyone gets arsey about me burning logs at home can do one lol. No idea on subsidies or grants as like to stay under the radar and don’t want some bureaucrat giving me spread sheet pish on how and what/where I grow. Different matter if I end up with hundreds of acres mind you, that’s about as likely as my borders and southern going back to the five year high etc etc!! Say hello to him from me when you next converse mate. I take it he’s never returned to lse? You still making steel?
Some of them are five years old now so starting to get a few apples etc plus bumper sloe crop this year and a handful of sweet chestnuts and mulberries etc. Growing some willows for kindling which bizarrely survived the dry spell.....on the well drained land esp. in the pond areas lol. A mate of mine is in that trade and refers to them as carpetshi.....! Never had any thankfully but have some wholesale type ones in headlam group that seem to be good yielders(below 450!).
Bought a few recently around 210 and would have had a few more when they went under 2 quid if I’d had any dosh. There’s some cracking yields around if you spread it enough at the moment. Genuinely thought they’d bounce back like the old girl(bby) did but never mind,it’s only money! I’ve made the switch to keir mostly in that sector. Up at the land the trees are really getting going now and wildlife seem to love it too. Make all manner of enclosures from old pallets etc and that encourages the small stuff which feeds the bigger stuff.
Back in for income mostly. Keeping an eye out for the next property but the only one we've seen I like had so much structural movement on it I discarded it. I wish I'd sold my carillon to buy building materials mind you, and a few other horrors sitting in the p/f too!
The cunning plan is going to be buy what I hesitate buying and don't end up buying ,don't touch what I'd normally buy and don't sell anything I'd normally sell!!! Feels much later with the nights dropping in!
