Put like that it's a bit of a conundrum . I just read that bp have spent 61.4BN on share buybacks in the last 25 years which is horrendous. How much of that expenditure has been retained as cashiers and how much was actually cancelled shares I don't know. The question is how much has it actually saved in dividend payments less the cost if borrowing the cash.

There must've been considerable turmoil in BP boardroom that we never get to know about. I'm not unhappy that he has departed albeit it seems to have happened rather abruptly. The new appointee looks to have impressive credentials and comes with hands on experience in oil industry so reasons to be optimistic for our future.

It is only my opinion but I do believe that BP has a very rosy future. We now have a strong leader at the helm, and selling off peripheral non core assets which are already under way will reduce the debt burden dramatically. Focusing on oil and gas will take a little time to make up the lost ground from previous foolhardy devisions which have cost us billions.

There has been so many new opportunities discovered just this year alone which have set us up for a very profitable time ahead. Best of luck with your investments

The real issue would be following cessation of the war would all sanctions against Russia be lifted and reopen the oil floodgates which would undoubtedly have negative pressure on oil price and stock value.
