Megan 1, sadly I think you are correct, the Conservative party will spend years in the wilderness because they cannot seem to agree anything between themselves and the constant infighting is embarrassing to say the least. Having said that Starmer has gone to considerable lengths to try to portray Labour as a transformed party with all anti semitic rooted out, he has even taken the trouble to say what he does not stand for, but not a single word about what he does stand for, other than bashing big oil, the very enterprises that keep the country solvent, and our pension pots earning.
That's the future of British politics unless there is a massive about turn and all tories start thinking about the country and not themselves. Have a good day
Hi Spights, speaking as a BL fan, even I think that's excessive under the circumstances, not least the way we investors were robbed of our dividend. By all means give him an incremental increase in line with the increase in div to investors, but 11.4m is out of order
A very good morning Spights., very unhappy reading to start a new week!!! It seems there's turmoil everywhere in our world and now with China potentially becoming a lethal weapons supplier to Russia things may escalate out of hand very quickly. North Korea and 'rocketman' are becoming another concern. Why can't everyone give peace a chance. Have a happy day
Hi Meoryou,
It's difficult to see any takeover of BP coming to fruition anytime soon. If we were not a target when out share price was near £2 why would we be more attractive at 7, 8, 9, or 10. Makes no sense to me.
Mr Rooney seems to have come under fire on the board over the past few days and I have to say I fundamentaly disagree that he isn't doing a good job. We seem to have lost sight of the immense pressure he was under to transform BP into a renewables business from all quartets, including the green brigade., the government., institutional investors, and the general public outcry. He didn't have an option and took decisions that in hindsight havnt all been hugely successful, but when I read posts on here by some advocating that their strategy would propel the share price to £10 frankly its just listening to ducks farting on yonder pond. For my money he has been a superb CEO and reduced our debt mountain hugely during his tenure which Bob Dudley didn't manage to do although he was paid massively more than Bernard Looney.
I now wish he would put the dividend back to where it wad and suspend or reduce the amount of buybacks, and concentrate on further debt reduction while the sun is shining.
Hi Chid, my recollection of the events is that HM Government was becoming extremely anxious and concerned as the massive extent of the liabilities BP were facing became clear, as there was some question as to whether BP could actually survive as a profitable company. The Government's primary concern was based on the fact that a huge number of British subjects pensions were dependent on BP and the financial implications of failure would've been huge for Britain and potentially destabilise our economy.
David Cameron intervened with President Obama and our government submitted an 'amici brief' to the US in support of BP. I do not think any financial support was offered or given.
Blimey, just maybe some of the green brigade has functioning brain cells after all. Refreshingly unbiased report from BBC for a change. Perhaps finally there is the inevitable acceptance that this world actually needs oil and gas to function, cand will do for another 59 years. Happy Sunday all
Good morning Happy,
Your post took courage and makes uncomfortable reading in parts. UK and NATO countries seem more preoccupied with the worry that Putin will turn his aggression towards them when taking decisions about supplying arms to Ukraine. We see this especially on the issue of whether to provide aircraft which everyone can see faces great reluctance generally, with the exception of Poland. One gets the impress that all nations are doing the bare minimum to be seen to support Ukraine but not crossing the line that might lead to Russia : Nato war which I can imagine Ukraine would be happy to see happening.
Unless diplomacy can prevail, and as things stand that doesn't seem very likely then this will drag on for a very long time with a great deal more misery for Ukraine
Good morning Meoryou and everyone.
It's been an extraordinary week for BP with share price rising far in excess of my expectations, and despite this mornings sluggish start I believe there is more to come.
Hi Grandadtom, my take is the fact that we have backed off the mad rush to renewable and concentrating on what we are good at and what is very profitable.
Another strong close today and 550 and beyond is really a strong prospect tomorrow.
Good morning Spights and everyone there's a happy air of spring on the board daffs are out, snowdrops in bloom what can go wrong lol. Yep £5.50 by weekend.
Hi Spights, thanks for your kind offer but I based my figure on a 20% uplift on the sp a couple of weeks back and events over results day and today have altered that considerably . However in the interest of fair play I will stick with my prediction
