The first thought on this would be the potential for a conflict of interest.

Lund may not be directly involved in the auction but given his senior position at bp he must be fully aware of everything that's going on with the castrol sale which for some reason I find troubling. Hopefully he will not be helping potential buyers to win a cheap deal at our expense

My anxiety is that certainly under the previous ceo the 'cash cow' mentality reigned supreme and staffing levels might not have been adequately controlled. Recent performance of the business and realisation that decisions made were poor at best should send a major wakeup call to the board

I'm surprised Elliott have not honed in on the staffing levels at bp.

We still employ almost as many people as shell who are more than double our size. Seems crazy to me but symptomatic of a complacent management that really needs to change

I actually think the government were very concerned that bp might have been bought out by a foreign entity and move listing to new York, hence the tacit approval for a shell takeover.

Yes the world had gone mad sadly..

I'm not sure what I expected from oil markets this morning but so far it's not taking the situation very seriously.

I imagine its what happens now that will determine whether we see a major uplift in prices.

That's a very significant development with potentially huge impact on oil price.

It will be interesting to see how USA reacts to this and what contra action they may take to ensure free movement of oil

I honestly do not have any objection to the issue of bonuses to employees as long as they are reasonably earned and the bisiness is prospering as a consequence, intact the more the better. Similarly, on the subject of share handouts, I am perfectly happy with the main board execs receiving major tranches of shares if the business is performing and the profits are delivered. What I'm not so happy about is when things are going rather badly and we shareholders have to endure the pain, to see massive tranches of shares doled out is disheartening to say the least. The only voices the board seem interested in listening to are the institutional investors and we are ignored.

the market is really volatile on opening with some major swings. it will be like a *****s knickers till this settles

I totally agree with you in regard to the market valuation of bp, especially when you add up the potential value of the constituent parts, which is why I was in agreement with you recently when you advocated public valuations to call out the market makers.

It is sad though that it takes war to see improvement but that's the way of the world now unfortunately. Have a good day.
