Hopefully putting the vice chair in place while a replacement for Lund is sought sounds to me like a rerun of the farce surrounding the appointment of Auchincloss because no matter how well qualified an outsider might have been it was preordained that Auchincloss was going to get the job. Are we therefore going to see the permanent appointment of the vice chair which would again represent 'more of the same' which is exactly what we do NOT need. New blood please not continuation of the shoddy performance of the incumbent chair

I think successive governments need to step up and acknowledge their part in the bp dilemma. They forced bp's hand to abandon our rosneft stake overnight and the unrelenting pressure to adopt renewables have played a big part in the decision making. I'm not absolving the bp board either because they got it spectacularly wrong and should accept their responsibilities. I also strongly feel that there should be a complete ban on issuing shares to anybody in the company until it is returned to profitability and stick price at least north of £5

Meoryou, I'm sure the BOD will all be very much aware of the 60% shareholders apathy. I can see that they will now feel under considerable pressure to perform and turn the once powerful business around expediently. There has been several very positive press releases of late which is very reassuring, but I do think its too little too late to save Helge Lund who will become the sacrificial lamb and fall on his sword due to lack of confidence.

Theoretically that's all well and good and it would almost wipe out out entire debt burden, however, I think the situation now has deteriorated since Starmer has tried playing statesman resulting in uk being public enemy no 1 in Russia, as a consequence I don't see russia being very sympathetic to our cause. If only politicians would stop poking their noses and complicating everything

BP Interest payments on debt is 1.29bn for fiscal quarter ending December 24.

Annualised therefore the approx interest being paid to service the current debt is 5.16bn

I take your point, although I'm totally debt averse.

I do wonder though if we had focused more on investments instead of the massive cash outlay on buybacks whether we would be in a much stronger position.

I totally agree Spights it would be fantastic to wipe £10bn off the debt mountain and not squander it on buyback madness.

We all owe Elliott a huge vote of thanks for forcing the hand of the bp board, as without them they would still be stuck in the rutt of renewables banking their massive salaries and stuff the individual investors who realistically have very little say in what the company does.
