I'm getting anxious about flogging off various elements such as castrol, and what will the value of the core oil and gas business be after all these divestment? Can we really expect the remaining operation to increase the share price

It's actually quite embarrassing just how inept bp's pr machine appears to be.

As I understand it the vast majority of north sea oil is exported as its too heavy grade for UK refineries.

If that's incorrect im sure someone with better knowledge will correct me.

You may be correct, one thing is certain they will never allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons and that could mean military intervention from either America or more likely isreal with us backing. That would take Iranian oil out of the equation for a long time

It's only a matter of time before america and Russia reinstate normal relations. This is one of the things that will emerge following today's discussions in Riyadh. When that is announced we will see all barriers lifted and russian oil will flow again.

Ukraine are slightly miffed that they are currently excluded from these talks, as are EU and UK so the real power brokers are russia and America.

Donald Trump wants cheaper and more plentiful oil in America and to balance that I believe the rush to electric cars will slow down. Opec will need to earn their corn to regulate supply of oil but that will not include american oil.

One thing is very clear and that is wecwill be dependent on oil for another 50 years in my humble opinion and upstream investment must dramatically increase now to ensure that adequate supply is maintained.

At first I thought the slight drop this morning was doe to ex-div but that's not till Thursday and oil price is holding up well so no idea why.

If we did merge with shell what ratio of dividend might we get, would it be 1 Shell for every 5 BP ?

Meoryou, extending the hand of friendship as you have shows the character of the man you are.

I can understand that in times when the stock has been in the pits (and God knows we've had more than our fair share of that) our stress levels can be elevated and comments made more in frustration than with malice.

We have all experienced the mood swings on our board relative to the prevailing stock price.

If Mark is tuning in then for my part I will warmly welcome him back should he choose to return.

At the end of the day we have a common interest which is to get the best possible return on our investment and the broader the informed input base is the better.

Hopefully we might hear from Mark soon

There are a few nasty individuals who think it's acceptable to post rude and insulting comments about others just because they can hide beneath a cloak on anonymity and we all know who these individuals are, so thankfully we have the filter facility to get rid which I've done several times.

I'm not counting are chickens here yet although I'm more optimistic now that we may see something back for our Rosneft holding and accrued dividends. As to what will happen with these funds I'm hoping that they will be returned to us shareholders in the form of a special dividend. Just don't spend it yet
