Wonderful to see President Zelenski in UK and addressing our Parliament this afternoon. What is less Wonderful however is watching Starmer trying to portray a statesman at PMQ's, almost sickening to witness his attempt to demonstrate his suitability to be a leader of this country. What a guy President Zelenski really is. May God grant him every success
I am really heartened by BP's new found strength to face down the green brigade and take decisions that are in the interests of our company. As expected we've had the usual suspects clamouring yet again for more stringent windfall taxes, and sleepy Joe is calling for quadrupling of tax on share buybacks. Despite all these headwinds BP have performed extremely well in Q4 and full year results are impressive. I'm also pleased to read the references to "selling" our Rosneft assets which suggests to me that at some point there should be a multibillion pot of money to be returned to shareholders. We are entering a new and exciting phase
Hi Spights and good morning everyone., lol I've been reading with interest all the mornings posts, and great to see so many new faces ,(to me) posting so a warm welcome. Lovely to see us north of £5 again, it will be interesting to see what impact there will be to the share price once USA comes into the fray at 14.30. Good to see the 10% uplift to our dividend as well which is always welcome. A great set of results by any measure and pleased and relieved to see the easing off renewable to sustain our profitability.
What a great business BP is, and great people at the helm.
Spights, Jezoo and all., keep the faith a little longer, I think we will see an unexpected uplift to the dividend and yes we will go north of £5 tomorrow, all in my humble opinion. Ha e an early night and be bright eyed and bushytailed for 7am
Hannabibi, I love your optimism.
Y-11 please stop posting utter nonsense. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that oil will drop to $60 or anything close. I get the impression you are still waiting for a massive drop to buy back in, but you will have a long wait if you expect $60 anytime soon.
Hi Spights, if I'm honest carbon storage sits uncomfortably with me. The vast amounts that will potentially be captured and stored in the bowels of the earth for 10,000 years before it can be safely released is a massive concern. Are we just passing the buck to future generations to clear up our mess ??
Cherryburn, sorry if I've started your day with negative vibes, unintentional I assure you lol. I do worry though if that little twerp ever becomes prime minister we will need to batten down the hatches. No new oil wells permitted!!! Have a good day and hopefully sp will find new ground at 2.30pm
Happy, it's easy to lay the blame retrospectively at Bernard's door, but we shouldn't loose sight of the fact that the pressure on him to effect change from politicians, the press, and the green brigade was enormous, just like the government forcing his hand to walk away from Rosneft.. if he had done nothing the company would've been vilified.
Hennabibi, I accept its a bit of a conundrum but since 2019 we've lost Rosneft and there's no clarity so far that we will ever get our money back when the asset is sold. We've also lost the dividend income from that asset. Yes we have made considerable investments in renewable but there's scant evidence so far on the viability of these assets as these things take a considerable amount of time to set up and get established before generating revenue. That is not to say that they will not be profitable, we just don't have access to the data yet. Personally, I would now prefer to see a move away from buybacks and reinstate the dividend as that will push the share price north to 2019 levels. I know that may not be popular with daytraders but they have had it all there own way recently, now it's time to reward the genuine investors.
