Tinker, I wouldn't have thought the accrued dividend would necessarily be legally claimable by whoever purchases the shareholding. Up to the point of sale the previously awarded dividend would normally belong to bp, and new owner benefitting from dividend post acquisition. So in normal circumstances bp should be entitled to that pot of cash. But these are far from normal circumstances especially when dealing with russian authorities

Meoryou you make a very important and valid point about usa looking after number one and frankly I cannot see much altruism coming from China either

Difficult to identify the real driver at present., I thought the fed were going to raise rates substantially a few days ago and that was my initial cause, then China and covid/recession fears leading to reduction in oil consumption., then the price cap. It may be a combination of all the above or just a general negative view of global issues. Opec have said that they are going to wait and see how things pan out into the new year and depending on the situation at that time will review their options. I don't think they will be happy if oil is substantially less than $80.

Causal, good luck with your investment., the best advice is not to listen to any of the silly ramping and derailing that is posted on this board, sometimes both within the sane day by some individuals. Do your own research and decide. Hopefully we will see a positive turnround when this oil cap debacle is settled.

It would seem that initial reports indicate the price cap may ba having the desired effect on volume of russian oil if the data is accurate. Price holding up well also, so can't really see any basis for the recent falls to continue and realistically we should see upward momentum today, hopefully. Have a good day everyone (including Owls aka "scrooge".... well it is almost Christmas)

I also think that opec will be watching oil prices carefully and will intervene by cutting production to reverse downward pressure on price

Hi Jeffrey, there's a good deal of uncertainty and markets don't like that. It's not easy to put your finger of the main cause presently. As to whether you hold or take a chance and sell I cannot advise you either way as that decision must be based on your own personal situation. I will not be selling. Best of luck to you

Jeffrey, I think it's the general feeling that most countries are entering into a recession that's causing investors to be cautious. There seems to be a negative feeling generally at present. Personally, I don't think oil will go down to $60 mainly for all the reasons you said yourself. As a long term holder I always say what difference does it make unless you need to divest.

Meoryou, that's the right attitude . I've had lots of "green" messages on my screen over the past few days. Arguably I'm conflicted when I filter because I'm denying the right of free speech, however, I have lost patience with some who are constantly in negative mode and simply can't be bothered.

Owls, I agree with you, we are spending around $50M dollars every business day buying back the company stock, but the dividend now needs to be reviewed and reinstated with full year results. Have a good evening

Spights you are spot on, there may be a little turbulence between now and Christmas but my prediction for the share price stands. OPEC will rapidly intervene should the need arise thankfully.
