Denby, I'm assuming that if we did have an all out war with Russia it would be under nato banner. Trump is not happy that usa has to make up the funding shortfall for nato due to failure of several states to make their full contributions. If usa splits from nato it will be a vastly smaller entity with far less fighting ability which will please russia no doubt. The only reason western countries are contributing to Ukraine is to keep the war contained within Ukraine and not granting nato membership until conflict ends. In other words avoiding having to fight.

Denby, I do agree, however the new administration in Washington appears unwilling to continue to spend billions of usa taxpayers money funding what they see as a European problem. That presumably leaves NATO but they seem to have lost all credibility and are unwilling to engage with Russia. Trump is also raising questions about what the function of NATO now is in real terms. If they accepted Ukraine as full members they know they will be forced to fight so that isn't going to happen while this conflict is going on. I think Biden decision to allow long range missiles to be fired into Russia was a mistake because it has weakened Trumps negotiating hand.

Meoryou absolutely agree, Trump will end the war by compromise from both sides. Neither getting everything they demand but just enough to save faces in my opinion.

Wookiemonster, I agree, after all we have confiscated profits generated from russian assets here and handed them to Ukraine. Its time for both sides to sit down and bloody well sort it out between them and save countless innocent children being killed. Sometimes compromise needs to dethrone pride and resolve differences

Setting aside the thunderous clashing of handbags and sadly unnecessary personal remarks I do think as far as Rosneft share is concerned there will be some kind of deal to be done when the war ends, hopefully in the new year. Russia has billions in assets in uk and all over the world and they will be anxious to protect those massive investments at all costs so its not entirely in their best interest to confiscate the shares and dividends accrued because the counterbalance would be a similar fate fir them. Also, hasn't bp board told us that they continue to seek a buyer for the stake or have the mislead us ?

I would not write off this asset by any means yet.
