It's been a period where the best thing to do is switch off and ignore. I am convinced that this stock will correct itself before long, sadly though it might happen as a consequence of a severe attack on Iran by IDF forces, which will inevitable mean yet another retort from the Iranian side. I wish to God one side or other would have the strength of character to actually stop this senseless slaughter of innocent children.

JSB.. I can't see this making any headway in the short term. I believe we will have to wait for the elections in the United States and then only if Donald is elected, as he is a friend of big oil. If 'oil hater' Harris is elected then we will have big problems, especially with Starmers cohorts on this side of the pond.

The last thing we need is another pi**ingredients contest. We are all pretty hacked off with BP performance and the dilution if our assets as a consequence.

I read somewhere that we have spent something approaching 20BN in buybacks over the past three years which is scary. We have also had our return diluted by 50% since covid. I find in incomprehensible that the BOD continue to burn cash in this foolish way while we still carry 20Bn debt plus gom which is probably another 10BN.

I have long argued against this strategy and just hope at some point common sense will prevail and the BOD will finally make some strategic investment decisions that provide a decent roi.

I live in hope that the madness ends soon or better still a complete replacement of the incompetent board with people who are more capable.

Clued, The government of UK no longer own any part of BP.

Initially they were majority shareholder but privatised back in the 1980's and divested 100% of the holding.

Useless I believe its the average taken over three days prior to declaration day

I'm sorry if my post contributed to your apparent insomnia. I always look forward to your predictable contrarian argument and as always whilst I respect you're comments I rarely agree with you.

You cannot claim that without the buybacks the sp would be a lot lower because the 20 to 25 million daily spend on buybacks would have even invested elsewhere and generate potentially more profit. I shudder to think of the billions we have spent on this ill-advised course and I can only hope that the BOD will see that this hideous course of action is not the best use of funds. I want to see debt reduction, better increase in dividends and better investment decisions.

Thanks Meoryou Very helpful as I wasn't able to listen to the webcast yesterday. We clearly are doing a lot of things right, however for me I would still like to see a more balanced approach to buybacks v debt reduction

Yes 1.75B debt reduction is very welcome however 7B share buyback for 2024 is not. It would have been better in my view if the debt had been reduced by 7.5B

The 10% uplift in div is another small step in the right direction

All the soundbites so far would suggest a less than stellar set of results unfortunately but I'm hopeful that he will do more to increase the dividend.

I have held this stock for more than 14 years so I consider myself to be a long term investor. Whilst I respect your opinion on buybacks I do not agree with it.

As for enhanced value to the shareholder (not the company) I can't see it, we are paying for the program not the company through the dividend reduction and will continue to do so for another 3 or 4 years. Taking into account the billions of our cash that has been used to fund the buybacks why has the share price not increased pro rata if you are so convinced that the strategy is working. There's been no shareholder value here for years.

To the many posters who are firmly in favour of buybacks I would simply add that we are the ones funding this program because our dividend was slashed by 50% We minoes have been treated like mugs by a greedy bunch of board members to enrich themselves.

Our dividend should be put back to its original level now and buybacks scrapped. To read that debts of $30Bn is not an issue is rather worrying.

GIVE US BACK OUR DIVIDENDS AND FOCUS ON DEBT REDUCTION NOW
