Hardman report clearly says " Cyanconndes Smart meter MODULES are compatible with all Indian meter manufacturers"
On that basis and assuming the Hardman is correct ( it was paid for by CC so I believe the information came from them) I have to make the assumption it's not embedded "in the meters" as I think was being suggested in some earlier posts. It's is an add on module, this bears out earlier discussions regarding its size.
I'm taking the personal view based on some technical knowledge that all the bidders are producing their own open protocol module. This allows the end user to decide which is best for them base on cost, technical reliability etc.
If CC have said embedded it's a play on words in my view. The Indian market are being quite clever, pick numerous vendors, ensure we have an open solution , play the minimum cost of delivery game.
Here's hoping CC gain their share. It would explain why JC reduced the numbers?

Not sure what you mean by USB. It would normally be built into the main unit. Now this could be by a separate PCB or a ROM /EPROM etc or even into the main meter PCB (think your embedded graphics card on your PC or a separate plug in graphics card)
I do recall JC or someone saying the module was too big to fit in the box?
On that basis I'm thinking it is more likely a separate module. On that basis it could potentially be added to any meter ( as could any other bidders product)
That is why I want to confirm if it's embedded or not. If embedded you could assume that will be the solution for those meters. If not all meter manufacturers could use any solution offered as an add on. That is of course if the front end GUI is open protocol which I would assume is the case.
I am only going on the basis of my experience as a PM in a very similar soluti8 albeit in a different field. The principles would be the same. Aimo.

Thanks for that it's appreciated. Could be a big positive as I say. My suspicion is India are going for an overall open protocol solution as far as possible. This gives them flexibility, competitive cost bugeting and competition amongst the chosen suppliers. I still believe the business will be shared amongst a few and hopefully CC get their share. My only fly in the ointment at the minute is Wirepas, they came in late, have a working solution (proven elsewhere) and seem competitive. If only we knew the story behind Anil,s return eh?

Tony LTI, thanks both for your response. Sorry Tony I am still (slightly) confused. Embedded and Integrated are totally different in my experience.
Integrated software is a collection of software created to work on related programs. Microsoft Office would be a good example for a PC.
Embedded software is embedded in the hardware. It is written specifically for a piece of hardware(the meter for example). Another good example in the consumer world would be a smart watch,it's similar to firmware and written to an EPROM or ROM.
Part of what you say confirms my earlier explanation. If CC have confirmed to you their software is EMBEDDED in the meters I would see that as a positive. From that perspective their would be a potential licencing income from the meters themselves plus a potential licence for the Integration software.
I could go deeper but have tried to keep it simple. Sometimes CC do not make absolutely clear what they mean so may investigate further. Did you just email the standard CC address? Very interesting though and thanks.

You appear to carry out considerable research. Can you shed any light on the issue with the embedded software being in the meters? If it is the case already it could be a game changer. I have known manufacturers to install the hardware and then lock it via a licence. There would be a cost and risk that the end user may never use the software or buy the licence in which case the supplier would lose the cost of building in the option,often not a lot of money as the major cost was in the software development as opposed to the hardware

The answer would of course be yes,I would base that upon embedded software would realise some sort of income/licence fee so would therefore make a significant difference. Until I have it confirmed my overall thoughts around risk profile remain the same.

Taken a further look and the only thing I can find is from the Hardman report 2021.
"By partnering with CyanConnode, the Indian manufacturers are able to access the intelligent communications modules, which can be embedded into domestically produced meter hardware." Note the word CAN, I think it's just pointing out the obvious possibility, it doesn't say IS embedded. Embedded software is found in many everyday products to control specific functions.

It was a serious question. Where has it been confirmed CC software is embedded in the main manufacturers offering? Was it just a throwaway JC comment or fact?
My understanding currently us that numerous companies are bidding for the work. Is JC suggesting only suggesting CC is the only embedded software? If so every manufacturer have CC inside? That being the case CC must by default get all the offering.

Understand why some of the stocks loaded with debt and valued on future potential earnings can be valued so high compared to some solid UK stocks.
The only fun I've had is 3 weeks each year on holiday. Been many places East to West coast over the years prior Pandemic, can't wait until things are back to normal. It was particularly good a few years back when there were almost two dollars to the pound lol.

My holding/profit was accumulated over a long period, some timing wrong some right but always with a level of research to reduce the risk of getting it wrong if at all possible.

What I did say is that is was a similar story with no orders ,price drops over time until another order appears. That is how I've made money and got my holding.

I said 16p by Dec without orders to support the SP ITT. Like Groundhog Day with this share. Reasonable order may push it up...rinse...repeat.

Funnily enough I am sure I remember seeing somewhere the Wirepas solution handled 1000 plus without gateway but could be wrong, it was almost an exact comparison. Tried to find it so must have been dreaming lol.
