RE: Are we there yet ?25 Jul 2024 20:39
Don’t give up hope.
Firstly the well bore needs to be properly and thoroughly cleaned. All manner of junk gets lost in a well, wrenches, gloves, cigar buts along with all the loose material generated by the actual drilling.
When they drilled for water on my land many years ago, on reaching depth required there was an explosion of rocky gravel, mud, sludge etc. Thanks to the released pressure the well was pretty much self cleaning, and this was water, not viscous fluids and oil and gas.
Heavy mud will probably have been introduced into the well to control the pressure and help as a lubricant.
All of this takes time to clean up and clear.
While the debate on this board about the merits of the initial rod pump and the use of an electric pump was going on, the BOD rushed in with the electric pump almost as soon as drilling finished. The pump was bound to cough and splutter on all the residue.
We have to assume that a slow and professional clean up is now taking place. Also that an acid wash will be undertaken, and perhaps repeated.
There is oil there. Even if the well is not connected to the main reservoir, there is oil, and every chance of higher quantities.
We cannot do anything but wait on news.
I personally believe the decision not to sell at a great loss was the correct one.
The investment may be recoverable, perhaps even with profits.
Meanwhile, don’t despair. You would have lost the majority of your investment if you had sold, so just remain patient and mildly optimistic.
The BOD must have learnt some lessons from all of this, and must be seeking the best technical advice to try to remedy the situation.
And at the end of the day it’s money, not a life threatening situation.
