A new plan for the next chapter in our evolution
Now it’s time to start the next chapter. Today we are launching a three-year plan that will give us the direction, energy and focus to transform BT into the leader in converged connectivity, brilliantly delivered.
We’re calling this plan One BT.
The opportunity ahead of us is huge. The pace of change and innovation we’ve seen recently is mind-blowing; data demand is exploding, ultrafast and 5G networks are in the process of becoming a reality, and our customers – both in the UK and across the globe – want more than ever before.
No one else is as well placed as we are to take advantage of these trends. By bringing our individual strengths, expertise and knowledge together, as One BT, we will deliver brilliantly for our customers, shareholders and you.
No matter what job you do, or where you sit in the business, this plan is for everyone and we all have a role to play in making it a success. Together we will focus on:
Delivering differentiated customer experiences
Investing in integrated network leadership
Transforming our operating model
This means that we will place an unshakeable focus on creating a standout customer experience, building the world’s leading integrated network and transforming the way the business works.
I’m looking forward to explaining more about our new plan, One BT, at 14:30 (BST), but there are a couple of points I wanted you to hear from me first, before I talk to the media and the City.
Changing the shape of our company
Over the next two years, we plan to reduce the number of roles in our business by 13,000. As I explained last week we need to reshape our organisation to make it easier to get things done and better serve our customers. These job reductions will be largely focused on senior and middle management roles, and by getting smarter with how BT operates across the Group. At the same time, we plan to recruit an additional 6,000 roles into our customer service, cyber security and engineering teams, reflecting the increased importance of our frontline teams.
There is no harder decision than one that affects our people, but it is the right thing to do if we are to become the business
