Another 1.67 million shares bought back today and safely lodged (into impotent obscurity) in ‘treasury’.

I confidently predict some eyewateringly vast severence hand-outs from the treasure trove of b-b shares they have so diligently squirrelled away for just this outcome.

They will exit stage left as multimillionaires for jobs well done.

Patently obvious incompetents running a Blue Riband UK Company - should have attract Government intervention….

but having been competent enough to build up their own private treasure trove in uncancelled shares (which will be generously assigned among themselves - when any convenient excuse to «justify» the bonanza) turns up.

Dream where our SP would be if these eyewatering buybacks had been cancelled - or better still - had the thrown away b-b funds been used to cancel our humungous debt. or invested in plant, exploration or acquisitions ?

Dream on my fellow private shareholders - it’s now every BoD Genius for themselves before the takeover breaks out….. or whatever.

Wow - how much of the incoming $110 billion will the local dignutories syphon off from that irresistable little package in: signing fees, approvals, land access rights, import fees, introduction to bankers fees, blessings from whoever…….

The naive investors should consult with us to get some idea as to what’s coming their way here.

Stop wasting our money on selfish strategies …. Make at least an attempt to Pay off some of our crippling debt (or at worst - buyback and immediately cancel).

By the way - did the authority granted by shareholders realise that the shares would NOT be cancelled ?

No effect on SP (while laying ‘in treasury’ of course …..(until cancelled - or reactivated in the name of the hard working management who will revive them in bonuses).

What riles me is the £60 million tied up in these dormant shares since 1.Jan.2025 - which SHOULD have gone to reducing our crippling interest payments.

Total of 500,000,000 + laying in treasury ….count that lot at £4 a share and you get an idea of the gross mis-use of our working funds.

Seems a lifetime ago but as I prepare to travel to Paris, I recall the 2015 GKP meeting there …. The original Jon and sidekick Sammi resigned shortly afterparty…. pocketing millions to finance their retirals, and of course that Shamelessly wealthy Kurd/UK MP for Stratford upon Avon went on to greater things too….. becoming Chancelor under Boris, and in London properties and ……whatever.

Oh and here we oldtimers sit in the doldrums for 10yrs while the latest catastrophy around pipeline and religious squabbles grinds on interminably….. give me a fiver a share and I’m out 🤪

Last I saw reported from BP several weeks ago was 520million shares in treasury…. (Must be carefull to distinguish between no. of shares, current value and nominal value ).

We need regular clarification from BP on the status of what’s being held as treasury shares, and a record of when they were given out as bonuses or eventually cancelled (perhaps they would prefer not to divulge too much of this in detail….).

ONLY if the buybacks are cancelled (a la SHELL’s honest policy to benefit their shareholders directly).

Our wise BoD are seemingly running an alternative policy of dumping them in treasury - rather than deleting… which would indeed give the benefit you state.

When the BoD decide to dish them out (in the names of their designated lucky recipients) and the shares are re-activated afresh they will attract voting rights and dividends, and increase the Company’s share capital once again !

Nice smoke and mirrors jaunt to award managerial successes -if we let them pull it off ;)

Rosnyeft: although having saïd that, I don’t think our local masters will be tolerated jerking Putin’s boys around with late,reduced, evaporating monthly payments - or they may just wake up next to the heads of their favourite camels sharing their pillow !

Correct Harm - it was just a travesty spending our cash on buying the shares back in the first place when our debt bill was screaming at us….

Next error was in not cancelling them (to reduce no. of shares). Watch and learn what the grown ups do …eg SHELL.

Pity our savvy BoD is driven to divest some of our assets now - to cover up for the irresponsible strategy of investing billions in buying back shares - to have them languishing in treasury (awaiting cancellation or as rewards for jobs well done).

What on earth was the motivation to make such a naive decision when we were submerged in debt ?
