Meoryou…. generally agree - but two salient points:

1) given recently company performance - who exactly deserve ‘bonuses’ over and above the grand salaries they already command ?

2) think of the lost opportunities which could have/should have been invoked - by a more savvy BoD, less focused on bonuses and self awards.

Let’s watch and see how they wriggle out of this ‘unfortunate for us’ situation……

Another tranche of useless buybacks slipped thro’ today… under the mantra of:

Wonder if the phantom ‘authority’ realised that the shares would not be cancelled (to bolster our SP) ?

What an abuse of authority and dereliction of primary duty (by the soon to be hideously wealthy) BoD who are supposedly acting on our behalf.

They must arrogantly assume that we are all naive as to what’s really going on here……

If we got into debt to build them generating capacity ……. they would love to ‘take it off our hands’ (of course) - but we would never get paid for it (of course).

A very risky venture !

Yeh - buybacks are a great idea : in a Company with no debt, surplus free cash - and a BoD who have no idea what to spend it on to further expand the business via internal growth, acquisitions or investing in new technologies to increase efficiënties.

A really savvy BoD could relentlesly plough it into bb’s, avoid cancelling them, and later have a jamboree of payouts to themselves for jobs well done.

Having blown £2 billion of our free cash on buybacks - I suspect that most shareholders would erupt at facing a rights issue to paper over our management’s strategic error.

Wasn’t the cause of such crippling debt a tailover from the GoA mistake ?

Otherwise, we would probably be on par with the performances of our IOC colleagues ?

£39 billion cash at bank and £2 billlion in treasury - debt of £60 billion…..

Suggestion from a plaintif: Maybe use some of that to be at least seen by the markets that you are making an effort to reduce our debt. ?

I potulate that The B Boys could use their recently registered oil company ( everything from exploration thro’ transport & marketting) to buy our produce for eg $27-$29/bbl, then transport it to their 3rd party customers for a considerable markup.
