@retiirement , and while Im at it – who inflated the higher education system - ‘I want to make a classes society’ - John Major - so when you talk about pointless degrees – ensure you remember who set that system up.

@retiirement , so to go full circle and sum this rant up - people on the dole are generally not ripping the arse out of the system, The experts at that – are the people who realise that PIPs is the way forward since they wont be asked to prove that they can work. That is not to say all people on PIPS are un deserving – many have real needs. But your proper slackers, that you are referring to know that PIPS is the one to claim – since they are given an easy ride. - and that is thanks to the conservatives

@retiirement , Then with 90K of debt, they start applying for jobs , realising that they have been hood-winked , meet an agency/consultant who tells them that they are lazy and uninterested - writing them off as lazy slackers, and because their skills are not as good as the old-boy who has just left the company having done the job for years – are unable to give them the post. @retiirement , Which then leads onto a discussion about education and the fact that ALL 16 year olds have to be in education training or employment – at a time when they are not really sure what they want to do – so they sign up to a course and get sucked through the system gaining huge debts, being fed from level 3 / a-level to nhc, nhd or degree. Many are told that they need a degree and that a golden career will be awaiting them. 50% of school leavers gaining a degree – their parents , who never went to uni are naturally proud. Then reality kicks in – they gain a degree in hogwash - but its too late. It’s not their fault – They did what they were told to do – stay in education , gain a degree and the world will be waiting with open arms. The true fact is we have an education system which , unlike the pre early 90’s , allows millions to undertake degrees in carp. Piror to this the government set targets and restrictions on the number of student s for each course. ITS not the students fault, they know no better, Its not the parent fault – they are proud of the children going to UNI - it’s the UNI’s fault for miss representing what will lay at the end. And when they do end- they realise that they have been swept along a education system built for profit. I still refuse to write them off

@retiirement , you work in a very niche area of employment and think this extends to ordinary paid work – care workers , shop assistants, factory workers, labourers etc .

You can’t be very good at your selection, I’ve just finished working with a couple of young lads (without degrees) who relocated 150+ miles to work with a major defence contractor – they are both now successfully on their way to gain a degree paid for by the employer and be trained up, and in the last month I‘ve just helped a very young chap gain an IT security apprenticeship with a major mining company.

All very keen, hard working, professional with only the minimum of rough edges which will be ironed out.

I too work in Eng and IT , but refuse to close my mind and write people off. Get your hands dirty and work with what you are given, don’t expect everyone to be perfect – they are not.

After the crash 2009 - I worked with dole people inner-city - providing courses for the job centre at a college; while one or two were deffo free loaders MANY were keen to work and needed help and were grateful for it. I'd have people coming up to me in bars on a night for years later to thank me for helping them get a job. Having seen and experienced working with these young people and knowing the jobs market – I’m not able to write them all off as free loaders. Today - 50% of school leavers gain a 'degree' - which means those who don’t are already bottom of the pile for the basic jobs, foreign workers often demonstrate more motivation (by the fact they have travelled from the EU). Then there was the benefit trap - earn too much but not enough to live on - yet your benefits were stop instead of tapered – which meant you couldn’t live on your salary. Writing a whole generation off on the basis of one person that you may have spoken with or been told about from the daily mail is naive. There are one or two taking the micky , but many just need help – I’m getting old but refuse to declare the young as lazy – they are not, and are no different than when we were young, people have not changed – the jobs market has.

I'm struggle to know which party is 'left' and which is 'right' . I quite welcome that labor are reviewing the whole PIPS thing -, there are too many people claiming who could work. As for stopping luxury cars on PIPs- well done. Both issues that the conservatives are responsible for . I also like that EV pay road tax, although Im not sure about the 3p / mile thing. Also they backed RR getting the contract 100% - can't complain there. The conservatives dilly dallyed around . I’m not a labor voter , nor conservative voter.

I do hope and wish RR to continue to fly like the last couple of years,, BUT Im coming to the conclusion that its now levelled out and back in the territory that it would be - had covid not happened. Half of me is thinking that this will just trade like any other stock now - up days, down days ,,, with a slow motion lift over time. Like I say - I'd love the fun to continue, I holf them - before I get flamed

Politics seems to be a pendulum which swings and only for a short period does it rest in an agreeable location. Its depth of swing always seems to be some inverse function of the party politics that went before.

I will just take what ever occurs on the chin and adjust course accordingly.

Being 10 times richer than a couple of years back - I now have a magical pair of rose tinted Rolls Royce glasses, When ever I go out shopping and see the price of things (which nearly knocks me over)- I pop on my Rolls Royce Rose tainted glasses ; which makes the cost of every thing 1/10th the price - Their bloody wonderful, I bought some new jeans at the weekend , the price tag said £45 , I popped on my glasses to pay with Rolls Royce money and instantly the price fillped - £4.50 ! Cost of living – crises , naaaa, not with Rolls Royce Rose tinted glasses :)

First sign of a drop , I flog the lot in my ISA, it only cost 0.5% tax to buy back in - but the advantage a ISA has in old age (being tax free and allowing you to draw on the funds ‘as an when’ you like - is magic). Preservation of its value is at the core of my strategy , particularly since it takes so long to build wealth in It
