With the major legal and regulatory hurdles largely out of the way, the focus is now on finalising compensation—just a few minor issues left, expected to be sorted after the autumn hearing.
This isn’t just about ticking boxes. The project economics are compelling (over 2 million carats, $211m in-situ value, strong IRR) and the presence of pink diamonds could make it even more valuable. Management has confirmed they’re actively approaching potential partners, and with the groundwork now done, any JV discussions would be from a position of real strength.
Also, don’t forget Karelian’s broader exploration in Kuhmo and other regions, which could add further upside if anything materialises there. In short, with Lahtojoki progressing and the wider portfolio in play, Karelian looks set up for some interesting months ahead—especially if a JV partner comes on board before year-end.
