RE: Timor Today21 Nov 2024 09:23
Natarbora was a key one for me, when the snippets kept arriving on your FB more and more and it looked like, as it has transpired Beaco being shelved.
Massive stumbling block for 2 decades, was the argument of cost , pipe over trench to Beaco or shallow pipe to Darwin.
The early studies had 3-4 times more costly to go to Beaco over Darwin, with the additional risk of the Trench moving 25-35 feet west (seismic and moving) during its expected operations (now extended if HUB vice Sunrise alone study)
Conoco Philips on the other hand, wanted to take Bayu Undan to the Timor Leste central south coast, with a planned new Gas refinery near Betano Oil refinery , which would take the concentrate. Natarbora just down the road from Betano, which your FB post also has, the oil refinery and chemicals plants (planned under Gusmao 2002 Tasi Mani) might also be relocated to Natarbora.
Phillips late 90's studies, agreed more costly than Darwin but only 50-75%, the sticking point for its shareholders that voted it down, was the aftercare costs, of the suspension bridge pipeline, held to the moving seabed by concrete blocks and wires, in place below shipping depths.
As Meg conceded prior to the current new studies, Beaco itself might cost less, due to new materials and modular units.
Tech and materials have moved on in the past two decades, while TL Waters ops becalmed.
Now looking to cross, where Phillips said could be done 25 years ago, with modern tech assistance, all sounds like a goer to moi , do not see how Woodside and Meg can wriggle out of it this time.🤔
Step up, or step aside time........GLA
