RE: Game 1 - Guess the date of the next major RNS:-1 Dec 2021 08:56
Morning Mr Wolfe,
Becky's little Fiat is now 17 year's old, in lovely condition, and only costs £30 per year to TAX!
The brake pipe that I have to replace was just one of those things, on trying to undo the rear hose pipe from the fixed metal pipe, the union nut had rusted to the pipe and even with the application of heat, sheared off the flared nipple with only 1/3 of a turn!
A dob of grease in manufacture and this would not happen, but it does with virtually all manufactures, none of them wants to use non-steel piping due to the extra cost involved!
The same with brake fluid, lovey stuff, absorb's water out of the air! and makes a great paint stripper!
Did you know you should change out your brake fluid every two to three years as it absorbs so much water it rusts your braking system from the inside out and reduces its boiling point?
I regularly change out brake fluid and have a tester to test its water content.
Most vehicle manufacturers recommend the brake fluid is changed every 2 years, regardless of the mileage. It may be that the fluid would be good for longer, but why take the chance?
You may think that would be included in a full-service :-) ..... Haha, Think again!
Silicone brake fluid has been around for years and is very good, absorbing no water BUT, 2-3 times more compressible than conventional Glycol Ethylene brake fluid, and more expensive!
Silicon-based fluid is often used in classic and vintage cars and military-type vehicles because silicone-based brake fluid will not corrode internal brake parts nor will it damage the paintwork.
An added bonus when used in some show cars.
Off back out under the car :-)
