Right - that was the expectation - that it would work best at the early stages (when the immune system is under-reacting, because COVID damages production of interferon beta) and could be harmful in the later stages, esp. for severe cases (when the body may be over-reacting).

We don't have any more data than the press release at the moment. But the result was surprising in indicating efficacy beyond the early stages. For me, the fact that RM was talking about how to get it into ventilators suggests a high degree of confidence that we're not expecting cytokine storm problems. But we don't know, this is literally the frontier of science.

Interferon Beta is itself a cytokine. Cytokines are like messengers between cells, they attach to receptors on the outside of the cell and the receptor passes the message to the inside, in this case through something called the JAK-STAT pathway. 2 stats form a dimer which is then allowed into the nucleus of the cell, where the DNA is, so can turn certain genes on or off.
Cytokines themselves are not a problem - but having lots too many can cause a cytokine 'storm', where the immune system is over-reacting and damaging the good cells as a result

Fascinating. The market is really not responding kindly which makes me think I'm missing something. Adam Feuerstein certainly isn't being nice to them, though not really sure what he has to go on, possibly even a personal vendetta. Strange hill to die on and maybe some serious liability too given he seems to be accusing them of fraud.

TBH this guy does not fill me with confidence - it's not the most convincing defence. But that's not really anything to go on either. Though I do think if I was the boss of Cytodyn, I would have picked a better time to sell $17 million of shares. May well be perfectly valid reasons but it doesn't look great, does it?

It's certainly possible to give a misleading picture with limited data, but we could say the same about our press release.

The stress of it got to me a bit. It's now a lot more to lose (on paper) than I'm used to playing with, plus more emotion attached to it than is healthy. It would be sensible to take some profits, but opportunities like this are rare.

So done a bit of gardening, quit drinking, been eating my greens etc. Had a good think about what happens if it doesn't work out. Fairly sure I can laugh either way.

The money isn't real until sold anyway. The psychological battle is only loss aversion vs FOMO and neither are rational. Backing the best science is rational. So holding the lot, until there is a good enough reason not to :)
