It's open to anyone over 65, or people over 50 with health problems that make them vulnerable to covid.

There is a very bright long-term future for a drug that safely boosts the immune response to respiratory viruses.
It was likely coming anyway, but covid has probably accelerated it by 4 or 5 years.

On a global scale, vaccination has barely started. We will be managing this disease and its variants for years to come.
I'd also suggest that it will be at least several decades before planning and stockpiling against pandemics falls down the priority list. Lockdown etc will probably stick in the public memory for the rest of our lives. It might even make future governments better at dealing with existential risks, though I've given up on this one.

Activ2 may well produce results quicker than P3.
For all the talk about the UK's future as a leader in sciences, it looks quite possible the US will get this done and approved ahead of the UK, which ought to be embarrassing.

RM told us P3 could take anywhere between 2 and 5 months, with 2 being about the quickest these things go at the moment. The trial size has been reduced by a third since then.

I take these concerns very seriously especially from the BMJ, but I would hope that the data and transparency they are calling for has been available to the regulators at least, even if it's not open to all.

If it did turn out to be 12% or 19% in practice vs the 95% claim, it would be very obvious very quickly.

For the P3 trial it's the Aerogen, as above.
For P2 it was/is the Phillips I-neb.

GlaxoSmithKline have a monoclonal antibody in P3 on the Activ 3 trial. It sounds promising. One major difference between this drug and ours is that they are targeting the virus directly, whereas SNG001 is intended to boost the immune system to fight it off. The big advantage that it should still work in any variants or mutations (and other respiratory viruses, for that matter).

There is already another approved monoclonal antibody treatment from Regeneron. Trump was given 8g of it at a cost of $70K, so it's not cheap.

There are a huge number of potential treatments and vaccines in development, though most won't get as far as we already have. We should definitely expect more to be approved. At this point there is plenty of room for anything that works - governments have already spent $billions on drugs that didn't.
